Klasse 42.Class 42.
PIERRE JOSEPH BETBOY in PARIS. Transporteur - Compafs. PIERRE JOSEPH BETBOY in PARIS. Transporter - Compafs.
Pätentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 24. August 1877 ab.Patented in the German Empire on August 24, 1877.
The Compafs shown in the accompanying drawing consists essentially of a sleeve α (Fig. 1, 2, 3 and 4), two movable diopter rulers b and a disc c (the actual Compafs) which rotates around the pin d. A fixed pointer attached to the axis of the rear sight serves as a mark for reading the direction of the path or object to be recorded.A tilting conveyor is attached to the rear of the sleeve α , which with the help of a simple plumb line g or a pendulum h the angle indicates which degrees drawn towards the point of an object form with the horizon. The diopter rulers are brought into either one or the other of the positions shown in FIG. 4, depending on the operation to be performed.
Will man nun, ah Ort und Stelle angelangt, z. For easier understanding of the use of the compass, a schematic representation of a recording is given in FIG. 5, where X represents the sheet of paper on which one wants to record the observations. which is to receive the image of the terrain, one cure in degrees in the direction indicated in the drawing way and fix a movable pointer in the center of the paper. If one wishes, ah place reached, for. example, a route from a to B accommodate , then you let the Compafs disk swing freely, raise the diopter ruler b and adjust the diopter in the direction of the axis of the recorded distance. The fixed pointer then indicates the degree to which the distance is directed (on drawing 360 Assuming that the distance from A to B is 300 m, this distance is plotted on the paper according to a certain standard, namely para llel with the pointer of the sheet of paper that was previously rotated to the 360th degree. If one then wants to gradually record the direction of the lines BC, BD, BE from point B , one proceeds in the same way. If the fixed pointer of the compass indicates that the distance to C runs in the direction of the 270th degree, then one rotates the movable pointer on the paper to this degree and then plots the distance graphically parallel to the pointer, as in the drawing specified, and so on. In this way figures are obtained which correspond exactly to those of the terrain to be recorded, without having to waste time measuring the angles and transferring them with the conveyor, as is the case when working with the graphometer and an ordinary computer is required. Also, when using the present compass, one no longer needs to mark with a visor stick, and before continuing to work, bring the line drawn last in the direction last recorded. The time-consuming work which one had to undertake up to now in order to record the curved course of a river will be significantly shortened with the help of this compass, since by means of it one can easily determine the normals of a line running parallel to the main direction of the river.
In order to determine the height of a point very approximately, with this recording system the trigonometric calculations can be replaced by a straight-line construction, for which everything is on the graded paper. is prepared. If you z. B. has found with the help of the plumb line or pendulum attached to the back of the compass that a point 900 m away from the observation point forms an angle of 5 ° with the horizon, one only needs on the paper from point C 1 to the Points // 'a length of 900 m ■ (= 9 cm, if the scale is ι: 10000), and at the end of the line to the pointer set to the 5th degree, to draw a vertical HW. The length of this vertical corresponds to the desired height, which in the given case is approximately 80 m.
The present Compafs can also serve well for orientation in the field. To z. B. Not to get lost in a forest, one divides the map in question into 360 degrees and sees that the 360th degree is due to the north. In the center of the partial circle attach the movable pointer. When entering the forest, one remembers with help of the compass the direction that you are going and the time during which you
