Description

Diesen Nachteil will die Erfindung vermeiden.Process for inductive surface hardening of camshafts It is known to harden the surface of a camshaft by having it through a fed with high-frequency alternating current and encircling the camshaft, circular Curved heating conductor loop passed through in a rotary feed process and then is deterred. The clear diameter of the heating conductor loop is only chosen slightly larger than the diameter of the cylindrical parts of the camshaft, so that in each case the coupling between heating conductor loop and cam tip in comparison to the remaining parts of the cam is relatively narrow. This has the consequence that the heating in the area of the cam tip is much greater than in other places of the cam, with which there is a risk of overheating of the cam tip. The invention aims to avoid this disadvantage.

In the method according to the invention, too, heating is used for the purpose the surface to be hardened by a circularly curved heating conductor loop, which encloses the camshaft, made use of. In contrast to the familiar However, the workpiece is not moved in a rotary feed, but in a straight line Feed guided through the heating conductor loop. According to the invention, the Position of the camshaft in with regard to the heating conductor loop like this chosen so that the tips of the cams each face the opening of the heating conductor loop where the leads for the high-frequency current and, if applicable, for the Cooling water are arranged.

The new method has the advantage that the cam tips are less They are exposed to heating because they are located at that point on the heatsealing band where the induction effect is lowest. Local overheating the camshaft at the tips of the cams is avoided.

It is known per se, local overheating of an inductive heating To avoid workpiece. For this purpose it has been proposed, for example, between the heating conductor and, such a workpiece, whose cross-section depends on the Heat conductor shape differs to arrange a conductive intermediate piece, with heat conductor and workpiece have a certain distance from this intermediate piece. Such a thing Method c assumes, however, that for each, workpiece cross-section or for each Heat conductor shape special spacers are made or kept in stock have to. In contrast, the method according to the invention dispenses with any additional Part.
