Description
Es ist bekannt, i, 2, 3, 4-TetrachlorhexafluorbutanIt is known i, 2, 3, 4-tetrachlorohexafluorobutane
DifLuordichloräthylen gemäß folgender Gleichung:of the following constitution: CF 2 C1CFC1CFC1CF 2 C1 to be produced by adding elemental fluorine at low temperatures to the sym.difluorodichlorethylene according to the following equation:
2 CFCl = CFCl + ¥£-*■ CF2CICFCICFCICf2CI2 CFCl = CFCl + ¥ £ - * ■ CF 2 CICFCICFCICf 2 CI
e;nwirken läßt. (Ind. Eng. Chem. 39 (1947) S. 401). (Ind. Eng. Chem. 39 (1947) p. 401). The yields are at 0 ° 6.5%, at --55 ° 34%, at -78 0 44%. Percentages are to be understood here as mol percent of the difluorodichlorethylene which has reacted.
It has now been found that 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrachlorohexafluorobutane can also be prepared without using elemental fluorine by i, 2, 3, 4-tetrafluorohexachlorobutane with hydrogen fluoride fluorinated in the presence of antimony pentachloride.
It has also been found that, instead of tetrafluorohexachlorobutane, 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrafluorotetrachlorobutene- (i) and run out of chlorine and can chlorinate and fluorinate this in one operation.
The reaction is carried out by adding the tetrafluorohexachlorobutane or chlorine and the tetrafluorotetrachlorobutane (i) with hydrogen fluoride at increased Temperature is implemented. For example, the reaction proceeds sufficiently above about 90 to 100 ° Speed.
.= CCl — CF3 gebildet wird.
The yields of tetrachlorohexafluorobutane are over 80%. By. Reaction with zinc dust in a methyl alcoholic solution can be used to produce hexafluorobutadiene with a boiling point of 7 °. It has already been described on various occasions to replace other halogen atoms with fluorine by the action of hydrogen fluoride in the presence of antimony pentachloride as a catalyst. US Pat. No. 2,554,857 also points out that in this reaction the chlorine atoms bonded to primary carbon atoms are preferred to be exchanged. In the same patent it is also described that in the fluorination of hexachlorobutadiene at around 40 0, the end product is a hexafluorodichlorobutene of the constitution CF 3 -CCl = CCl-CF 3 , and that when a further excess of hydrogen fluoride is used, the compound CF 3 - CF is finally obtained . = CCl - CF 3 is formed.
• 20 In these reactions described, the two terminal carbon atoms are perfluorinated while maintaining a double bond, and in addition, when using an excess of hydrogen fluoride, chlorine bound to secondary carbon atoms is also exchanged. It was then to be expected that in the fluorination of i, 2, 3,4-tetrafluorotetrachlorobutene- (i) in the presence of chlorine and in the fluorination of 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrafluorohexachlorobutane with hydrogen fluoride and antimony chloride when using a large excess hydrogen fluoride also forms the corresponding terminal and even partly central perfluorinated compounds. However, this is not the case "rather, when working at, for example, 140 to 160 °, even when 18 moles of hydrogen fluoride are reacted with 4 moles of tetrafluorohexachlorobutane, only 1,2,3,4-tetrachlorohexafluorobutane is obtained, although the amount of hydrogen fluoride is not limited to complete fluorination of the terminal carbon atoms, but also a partial replacement of the chlorine atoms bonded to secondary carbon atoms would have been sufficient. This fact could not be inferred from the known literature could be eliminated by the attempts leading to the present application.
8100 g i, 2,3,4-Tetrafluorhexachlorbutan werden mit iioog Fluorwasserstoff und 1000 g Antimonpentachlorid in eint_-i Autoklav auf 140 bis i6o° erhitzt.
