Process for the fermentation of sugar solutions containing acetic acid
to butanol and acetone with the help of butanol bacteria The invention relates to a
Process for fermenting sugary liquids to butanol, acetone and ethyl alcohol
with the help of butanol bacteria.
It is already known to sulphite waste liquors and wood and plant hydrolysates
with the help of butanol-forming bacteria to butanol, acetone and ethyl alcohol
ferment. In the fermentation of such nutrient substrates, however, there are different ones
Admixtures are noticeably disturbing and lead to the death of the bacterial cultures. as
such toxic substances have already been recognized by copper salts, formic acid and furfural
been. It is also known that the sulphurous acid in the sulphite waste liquors is practical
must be completely removed. On the other hand, it is known that an acetic acid content
the acetone-butanol mash to be fermented significantly increases the acetone yield
results, and it has therefore already been suggested, the natural content of acetic acid
and to artificially increase calcium acetate in such fermentation liquids.
On the basis of these findings it had to be assumed that fermentation substrates
with a high natural acetic acid content can be fermented particularly cheaply.
Entfernt man dagegen erfindungsgemäß
It has now been found, surprisingly according to the invention,
that too high an acetic acid content of the fermentation substrates for the course of fermentation in turn
is very harmful.
It was found that softwood and beechwood sulphite waste liquors
up to 20 g acetic acid per liter, wood sugar spices up to 12 g acetic acid per liter
contain. If such substrates are subjected to butanol-acetone fermentation, e.g. B. with
With the help of Clostridium acetobutylicum, the fermentation stops, the fermentation organisms
degenerate and finally die. Nothing changes in this either when the acetic acid
was previously neutralized, e.g. B. with carbonate of lime. On the other hand, if removed according to the invention
part of the acetic acid, e.g. B. by steam distillation in an acidic medium
or by converting acetic acid into water-insoluble salts and removing them,
z. B. by filtration, up to a maximum content of about 5 g per liter, - and fermented
after these measures, a smooth fermentation process is achieved and optimal fermentation can be achieved
Yields of butanol and acetone can be obtained.
Ausbeute. It is also possible to check the acetic acid content in the fermentation substrates
by mixing with other fermentation substrates that are free or low in acetic acid,
z. Bi molasses, to be adjusted to the value of 0.1 to 0.4% that is most favorable for G.ärnng.
A mixture of 30o ccm wood sugar wort finite 1.201, organic acid and 75
g molasses in 70o ccm water contains 0.33% acetic acid and ferments smoothly with good
Yield.
reduzierten Zucker.According to the invention, it is therefore possible by setting the values to
Acetic acid or its salts in the fermentation substrates butanol fermentations always proceed well
to achieve with maximum yields. It can in practical operation with certainty
ongoing fermentations are carried out with increased yields of 10 to 20% of solvents
compared to the known processes that work without adjusting the acetic acid.
Example 100,000 of a coniferous sulphate waste liquor with a content of 159 acetic acid
per liter at a pH value of 3.5 and a temperature of 90 ° 4 hours
long ventilated while maintaining the temperature by blowing steam.
After this time the content of volatile acid (acetic acid) is on 2.5 g per
Liters decreased. The lye is now made by adding carbonate of lime and quick lime
brought to a pH of 7.5, filtered or decanted and cooled to 36 °.
It: is made by adding 501 to a pre-mash, which prepares in the same way
was employed for fermentation. Fermentation is over after 44 hours. It will
from 22 kg of reduced sugar, 5 kg of butanol, 2.5 kg of acetone and 0.85 kg of ethanol are obtained.
- This corresponds to a yield of 38% solvent, calculated on the solvent used
reduced sugar.
Example 2 iooo 1 a Buchenholzsulfitablauge containing io g, acetic acid and 40g reduced sugar per liter, stirred with iooo 1 water and 55 kg molasses from about 50% sugar content, resulting in an acetic acid content of about o, 490 /, resulting in the liquid . By adding carbonate of lime, the mash is adjusted to a pH of 7.2 and then fermented and distilled in the same way as indicated in Example i. 26.6 kg of solvent are obtained, corresponding to a yield of 394% calculated on the reduced sugar, of which 14.6 kg are butanol, 9; 3 kg are acetone and 2.7 kg are ethanol.
