Belüftete Bremsscheiben sind üblicherweise aus Gußlegierungen (GG, GGG, G-Al, GS) hergestellt, wobei für die Herstellung der inneren Hohlräume und Kanäle dem jeweiligen Gießverfahren angepaßte Kerne in der Gußform verwandt werden. Dementsprechend werden zur kostengünstigen Herstellung bevorzugt leicht gießbare Legierungen ven/vandt. Für hohe und höchste Beanspruchungen werden Bremsscheiben geschmiedet. Vor allem, wenn zwischen den Befestigungspunkten an der Nabe Durchtrittsöffnungen angeordnet sind, wird die Innenbelüftung der Bremsscheiben erheblich begünstigt.
