Saugkopf für einen Bestückungsautomaten
5Suction head for a pick and place machine
5
The present invention relates to suction heads controlled by negative pressure of a machine for assembling circuit boards with electrical or electronic components, wherein an annular insert is arranged in the free end region of the respective suction head and is flush with this end region.
In modern production lines, circuit boards are fitted with electrical or electronic components using machines with suction heads. The components are taken out of a magazine by means of a vacuum using the respective suction head and transported by the machine to the circuit board to be fitted. Suction heads used to date have inserts in their end area that are flush with the end area and are made of a relatively hard material, which are pressed against the tubular inner wall of the suction head end area. It has been shown that due to the degree of wear of the insert and the nature of the surface (degree of roughness) of the component to be sucked in, there is often poor adhesive contact between the suction head and the component. As a result, the vacuum required to transport the component was no longer achieved or was only achieved to an insufficient extent, which resulted in failures when assembling the circuit boards. In this case, relatively expensive components (ICs, relays, connector sockets, etc.) were thrown away due to their poor adhesion and up to a maximum of three new assembly attempts were started. In a next step, the inserts were changed, which in turn resulted in repair times and thus downtime in production.

5The present invention is therefore based on the object of designing the insert arranged in the suction head end area in such a way that the rejects and downtimes can be significantly reduced.
5
This task is solved by the fact that the insert is designed as an O-ring made of soft elastic material that slightly protrudes beyond the end area of the suction head.
Due to the insert being made of a soft, elastic material, which also extends slightly beyond the end of the suction head, a flexible material is now placed against a comparatively hard material during the suction process, so that the insert is better adapted to the component to be transported, which may have surface irregularities or roughness. This means that the component in question is sucked in better and adheres better, so that it is not lost when the machine is moved. This has the advantageous consequence that - as mentioned above - lost parts no longer have to be thrown away as often and the machine's repair and downtime can be significantly reduced. Such a design and arrangement of the insert also has the advantage that, in the case of relatively heavy components, which previously only had to be moved more slowly in a special run using the machine, they can be integrated into the normal assembly run for lighter components due to the higher adhesive force of the insert used in the suction head. This also reduces the assembly times of the circuit boards and increases the assembly performance. Silicone plastic has proven to be a low-wear and preferably usable material for the insert.
The invention will be explained in more detail below using exemplary embodiments, whereby only the details of interest are shown.
Es zeigtIt shows
Figur 1 einen Endbereich eines Saugkopfes einer Bestückungsmaschine mit dem erfindungsgemäß gestalteten Einsatz,Figure 1 shows an end region of a suction head of a placement machine with the insert designed according to the invention,
Figure 2 shows the end section of the suction head that has been used so far.
A machine for assembling circuit boards is equipped with at least one suction head, which uses negative pressure to suck electrical or electronic components from a magazine and transport them to the circuit board to be assembled.
Figure 2 shows an end section of a suction head 1, as it has been used up to now. The suction head 1 is tubular in its end section 2 and is used to accommodate a ring-shaped insert 3. The insert 3 is pressed against the inner wall 4 of the suction head and is flush with the free end of the suction head 1. The air ducts 5 in the suction head 1 and 6 in the insert 3 are indicated by dashed lines. Such inserts 3 consist of a relatively hard material, which meant that after a longer period of operation of the suction head 1, the component could no longer be sucked in in the desired manner and moved by the machine towards the circuit board.
B. aus SultonIn order to avoid this disadvantage, according to the arrangement according to the invention in Figure 1, the insert 7 is designed as an O-ring made of soft elastic material. The insert 7 is in turn press-fitted against the inner wall 4 of the suction head 1, with the insert 7 slightly projecting over the end region of the suction head 1. Due to the material made of Sulton, for example

During the suction process, a soft, pliable material comes into contact with a comparatively hard material of the component due to the soft-elastic insert 7 made of plastic. The soft-elastic material of the insert 7 adapts much better to surface irregularities or roughness. In this embodiment, too, the air duct 8 in the suction head 1 and the air duct 9 in the insert 7 are indicated by dashed lines.
