Erst anschließend setzt die eigentliche Verwertung der Nahrung ein. Im Frühjahr und Herbst geben die Züchter oft karottenhaltiges Beifutter zur Entschlackung. Der aus dem Schneckenextruder austretende pastöse Strang wird in kleine Strangabschnitte portioniert, wobei der Schnitt unmittelbar an der Düse des Schneckenextruders erfolgt.
