Mold finishes Mold finishes are known in large numbers.
Substances such as silica, clay, magnesium carbonate and others are included. in different
Composition with other ingredients and in more or less large proportions,
partly ground to colloidal fineness so that they are in the form of a suspension
present in the solvent, has been proposed.

Magnesiumkarbonat in Pulverform zugesetzt. The invention extends to a size for molds, in particular

of the castings than to avoid the mass in terms of its practical usability
and possible use of the company working conditions as perfectly as possible
adapt; also about ensuring that the mass in the casting heat as possible
no gases developed, on the other hand it is as gas-permeable as possible, and finally
about giving the mass a high mechanical stability, which is special
must be requested when using the centrifugal casting process. Additional conditions,
which the size is supposed to fulfill go to the point where the size opposes the mold
protects the liquid material sufficiently in chemical and physical relationship
and thus increases their service life and that they allow a smooth detachment of the casting
from the mold and the cleanest possible surface of the casting guaranteed.

To meet all these requirements, the invention proposes a too colloidal one
Finely ground, very thinly applied coating using silica
and clay, with the following composition: So to 90% quartz flour, 5 to 10% whiter
Enamel clay, 3 to 5% Ultrasil or the like. And 2 to 5% of a binder, e.g.
B. an organic core binder. Some, about 2 to 4%
Magnesium carbonate added in powder form.

Task to keep the quartz particles in suspension, i.e. to act as a setting agent,

becomes too fat and flakes off the heated mold during use. It is therefore

The invention satisfies these requirements. The content of clay
normal structure is within safe limits for the covering effect, and the
required strong actuating effect is through the special means of the addition of a
Swelling body, such as Ultrasil, bentonite or the like. Achieved, which is very low in terms of quantity
can be kept, as these substances are suitable due to their special structure
are all particles of the protective compound applied, even over longer periods of time
completely -to be held in abeyance. This effect is further supported by the
Magnesium carbonate, which acts in the same way as a powder, is added to the slip
is, whereby here again the proportion is comparatively very economical in terms of weight
can be measured. With this composition of the sizing is at the same time for it
ensured that no practically significant gas evolution in the casting heat
out of the crowd, going on. This fact is considered to be a particular advantage
evaluate, since with extensive gas development with an at least partial
Penetration of the gases into the casting or with an impairment of the surface
the same can be expected through the formation of fine channels or similar cavities
is. Such imperfections can under certain circumstances be remedied during a subsequent heat treatment
the castings as a result of the ingress of oxygen; z. B. when glowing, considerably,
z. B. to craters, enlarge and thus the. Cause, corresponding damage
represent. On the contrary, the new size has a considerable gas permeability
is to be expected, this danger can count all the more as eliminated, no matter
to what extent and for what causes gas evolution would occur.
Der außerdem in der Schlichte enthaltende Bindestoff, z. B. in Form
The binder also contained in the size, e.g. B. in shape
an organic core binder or the like, fulfills the task of mechanical cohesion
of the various constituents of the masses, and the latter thus one
to give conceivably high stability, "which is particularly important when using the
Centrifugal casting method is advantageous, since this involves the liquid material
possibly more significant - force is pressed against the mold wall and itself
at the same time moves relative to her in the circumferential direction, so that the risk of tearing loose
and washing away is significant.
The application. the new size is not suitable for centrifugal casting molds

can be anything. The ingredients contained in the mass can also through
other substances with the same or similar effect while maintaining their basic effect

which is important in the invention.
