Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
in CHARLOTTENBURG.in CHARLOTTENBURG.
Die Processe verliefen etwa nach folgenden Formeln:The previously known processes for the production of phosphorus, such as those z. B. in the English patents No. 17719 from 1888 and 10437 from 1889, are based on the mixtures of phosphoric compounds, especially phosphoric acid and metaphosphates with carbon and silica or with carbon alone were heated to a suitable temperature, so that Phosphorus was set free, while the carbon burned with the oxygen of the phosphorus compound to CO and the phosphate base came into contact with the silica. The processes ran roughly according to the following formulas:
j 3 Ca (POJ2 j+ 10 C = 4 P + Ca3 (POJ2 + 10 CO; "Co3 "(POj2 -\-, $ C = 2 P + ■} Ca O + 5 C O; 2 Ca (P OJ2 + 2 SiO2+ ι ο C = 2 Ca Si O3 + 4 P + ι ο C O. j 3 Ca (POJ 2 j + 10 C = 4 P + Ca 3 (POJ 2 + 10 CO; "Co 3 " (POj 2 - \ -, $ C = 2 P + ■} Ca O + 5 CO; 2 Ca ( P OJ 2 + 2 SiO 2 + ι ο C = 2 Ca Si O 3 + 4 P + ι ο C O.
The object of the present invention forming process now aims the Production of phosphorus from material containing phosphorus (such as mineral Phosphate, bones, slags containing phosphoric acid, which form the phosphoric acid containing phosphates) using the property of coal, at high temperature to have a carbide-forming effect on the metals of the bases.
Die auf Grund dieser Eigenschaft der Kohle angestellten Versuche zeigten, dafs beim Schmelzen bezw. beim Erhitzen eines Gemisches von Kohle und einem phosphorsäurehaltigen Material in geeigneten Mengungsverhältnissen im elektrischen Flammenbogen, was in ähnlicher Weise geschehen kann wie die Herstellung von Carbid nach dem D. R. P. Nr. 77168, nicht nur das der mit der Phosphorsäure vorhandenen Base entsprechende Metallcarbid sich bildet, sondern auch Phosphor entweicht, der leicht in seine Säuren, z. B. durch Verbrennen und die entsprechenden Salze (und zwar in reiner Form) übergeführt werden kann. Die Reaction läfst sich aus folgender Gleichung, die für Tricalciumphosphat gewählt ist, erklären ;The experiments made on the basis of this property of coal showed that with Melting respectively when heating a mixture of coal and a phosphoric acid-containing one Material in suitable proportions in the electric flame arc, something similar Can be done like the production of carbide according to the D.R.P. No. 77168, not only the metal carbide corresponding to the base present with the phosphoric acid itself forms, but also phosphorus escapes, which can easily be converted into its acids, e.g. B. by burning and the corresponding salts (in pure form) can be converted. the Reaction can be explained from the following equation, which is chosen for tricalcium phosphate ;
Ca3 (P OJ2 4- 14 C = 3 Ca C2 + 2 P + S CO.Ca 3 (P OJ 2 4- 14 C = 3 Ca C 2 + 2 P + S CO.
The required mixing ratios can easily be calculated from this, whereby however, for the amount of coal to be used also for the other admixtures of phosphates, such as calcium carbonate, calcium fluoride, etc., must be taken into account.
Just like calcium phosphates, phosphoric acid alumina, which is found in the Nature in large quantities as Rodondophos-

phate vorkommen, sowie andere Phosphate, phosphorsaures Natron etc. zerlegen.phates occur, as well as other phosphates, phosphoric acid soda, etc. decompose.
Bei Anwendung von Thonerdephosphaten würde sich folgende chemische Gleichung ergeben: When using alumina phosphates, the following chemical equation would result:
The object of the present invention is accordingly to use phosphorus (or its acids and salts) from phosphorus-containing material, such as mineral phosphates, bones and phosphoric acid-containing slags, produced by the fact that these materials are subjected to the carbide formation process be subjected, which is practically carried out by the fact that the Base these materials by heating the latter sufficiently high in admixture with charcoal converted into corresponding metal carbide, the phosphorus then being expelled. This can be done in a similar way as according to D. R. P. No. 77168 the production of Carbide.
To practice the process, mix the desired and above declared implementation corresponding amounts of the phosphoric acid-containing material (phosphate) and Coal intimately and heats the mixture in an electric furnace or in other, the required temperature supplying apparatus, e.g. B. in a nickel furnace, with air exclusion to the temperature required for carbide formation. The phosphorus set free here is collected in suitable condensation apparatus and can, if desired, in any and converted into its acids and salts in a known manner. The carbide formed can be tapped and a new batch of the mixed raw materials introduced into the oven to make the procesf expediently possible to make uninterrupted.
