The invention relates to a device according to the preamble of claim 1.

Well-known devices of this type are computer systems.

The invention is based on the task of assigning data from everyday life to one another and making them easier to handle for the user.

This task is solved by the features of the claim. The device can be the size of known pocket calculators, so it can be carried by the user without difficulty. The calculator is designed in a known, suitable manner for handling the data to be processed. The supply

The device can be supplied with electrical energy in a conventional manner, either via batteries or accumulators or even solar cells. For this purpose, the device is expediently equipped with an on/off switch. The storage device is designed in a conventional manner depending on the type and amount of data being sought. The same applies to the display device. The data to be handled is usually stored in books or directories, which are primarily intended for domestic or stationary use. However, this data is often also needed on the move when such books or directories are not available. The invention remedy this problem by providing a handy device that can be taken anywhere, is easy to use and provides the data being sought quickly and reliably and makes it visible on the display device.

The keyboard according to claim 2 can, for example, be equipped with individual buttons or sensor elements.

The equipment of the keyboard according to claim 3 or 4 will be done depending on the requirements of the data to be handled.

The features of claim 5 enable a particularly compact design of the keyboard.

The features of claim 6 lead to a simplification of operation.

According to claim 7, the device provides a display warning the user in case of incorrect input.

Ol is particularly flexible because this type of memory is programmable and erasable. This means that the memory content can be adapted if the data being searched for changes.

The features of claim 9 result in particularly good readability with low energy consumption.

The block diagram of Fig. 1 shows a computer 1 that is connected to an input device 2, a display device 3 and a storage device 4. An on/off switch 5 is also connected to the computer 1.

According to a particular embodiment of the invention, the computer 1 has a comparator 6 and the memory device 4 has a memory area 7, which are connected to one another by a schematically indicated data line 8.

Ol Telephone area codes and/or telephone local network areas/municipalities and/or postal codes and/or place names and/or names of federal states.

In contrast, known data can be entered into the input device 2, such as vehicle registration numbers or administrative units (cities and districts) or telephone area codes or telephone local network areas/municipalities or postal codes or place names. After such an input, the computer 1 establishes a connection to the storage device 4 via a data line 9 and determines in the memory the data being sought that belong to the known data. As soon as the data being sought is found, the computer 1 transmits it via a data line 10 for display to the display device 3.

The memory area 7 contains all known data that can be entered into the input device 2. After data has been entered into the input device 2, the comparator 6 compares the data thus entered with its "setpoint value" stored in the memory area 7. As soon as agreement is found, the computer 1 continues its work. If, on the other hand, agreement is not found, the comparator causes the computer 1 to display on the display device 3 a to display information embodying incorrect input. The user is thus prompted to correct his input into the input device 2.

In all drawings, identical parts are provided with identical reference numbers.

Fig. 2 shows a device 11 for selectively assigning data to one another. The device 11 is

The input device 2 has a keyboard 13, which in the case of Fig. 2 has alphabet keys 14 from A to Z, Ä, Ö and Ü. In addition, a completion key 15, which signals the end of the input, and a delete key 16, which deletes the display on the display device 3, are provided as function keys.

Instead of the alphabet keys 14, the device could also have only number keys with the digits zero to nine and additional function keys, in a manner not shown. This embodiment would be selected if the known data to be entered only consists of numbers.

The embodiment according to Fig. 3 is suitable for alphanumeric input of data into the input device 2. For this purpose, the alphabet keys 14 for the letters K to Ü according to Fig. 2 and also the end key 15 and the delete key 16 are provided in the input device 2. The keyboard 13 also has ten combination keys 17, each of which is marked with one of the letters A to J and additionally with one of the numbers 0 to 9.

In this embodiment according to Fig. 3, the device 11 has a selector switch 18, with which the letter assignment or the number assignment of the combination keys 17 can be switched as desired. Thus, with the device 11 according to Fig. 3, depending on the operation of the selector switch 18 with the combination keys 17, either the letters A to J or the numbers

Enter 0 to 9 into the input device 2.

The function of the device 11 will be described using an example.

The letter component "GS" is known from an official vehicle registration plate and the associated administrative unit is sought.

First, the ON/OFF switch 5 is operated to switch on the device 11. Then, if there is still a display on the display device 3, should be pressed, the delete key 16 is pressed. Then, in the embodiment according to Fig. 2, the alphabet keys 14 with the letters "G" and "S" are pressed, which can then appear on the display device 3 as an acknowledgement of the input. Pressing the final key 15 causes the computer 1 to search the storage device 4 via the data line 9 for the administrative unit belonging to the letter sequence "GS". As soon as this administrative unit "Goslar" is found, it is transferred to the display device via the data line 10. 3 and made visible there.

In a similar manner, known data can be entered into the input device 2 in any combination and associated sought data can be displayed on the display device 3.

Claims (9)

Device according to one of claims 2 to 4, characterized in that in the keyboard (13) some combination keys (17) are each assigned both a letter of the alphabet and one of the numbers from zero to nine, and that the device (11) has a selector switch (18) for switching from the letter assignment to the number assignment and vice versa. 6. Device according to one of claims 2 to 5, characterized in that the keyboard (13) has as function keys a completion key (15) signaling the completion of the input and a display on the -3- -3- Ol display device (3) has a delete button (16). 7. Device according to one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the storage device (4) also has a storage area (7) for storing the known data, that the computer (1) has a comparator (6) by means of which the data entered into the input device (2) can be compared with the data stored in the storage area (7), and that if there is no match, an output signal from the comparator (6) causes the computer (1) to display information embodying the erroneous input on the display device (3). 8. Device according to one of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the memory device (4) is designed as an EPROM. 9. Device according to one of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that the display device (3) has a liquid crystal display (LCD).
