Method for synchronizing an oscillator to normal frequency harmonics
In the field of frequency measurement technology and transmitter control, oscillators are often used,
which, by means of special processes, can be selectively tuned to different harmonics of a basic frequency that is precise to quartz
can be synchronized.
In this case, it is mostly inexpedient to generate the desired harmonic spectrum directly from the fundamental frequency f4; rather, it makes sense, according to Aibb. i to modulate a normal frequency carrier mfq derived from the basic frequency by multiplication with the distorted basic frequency f4, whereby a sideband spectrum covering the variation of the oscillator is generated. Should z. If, for example, an oscillator with the variation 190 : can be synchronized up to 21o kHz every i kHz, the direct method would require the generation of the one hundred and ninetyth to two hundred tenth harmonics of i kHz, while modulating a 200 kHz standard frequency carrier with a distorted i- kHz voltage only the generation of the tenth harmonic of this modulation voltage is required.
Abb. i dargestellt.A previously known arrangement that works according to this principle is shown in FIG
Fig.i shown.

A'bb. 2 zeigt eine
Anordnung, die nach .diesem Verfahren arbeitet. The invention has set itself the goal of replacing the variable filter 3 of the arrangement according to Fig. I by a fixed filter. The invention relates to a method in which the oscillator frequency is modulated with the distorted normal base frequency fq, with a sideband being filtered out of the resulting sideband spectrum with a fixed filter, which corresponds to a normal frequency carrier mf q, whereby phase comparison (mixing ) between the filtered out sideband and the supplied standard frequency carrier mfq a control voltage for tuning .des oscillator is obtained. A'bb. 2 shows an arrangement which works according to this method.
The voltage of the oscillator to be synchronized is in the modulator i
4 modulated with the normal fundamental frequency f7 distorted in the distortion unit 2. At the exit
This modulator produces the oscillator frequency with a corresponding sideband spectrum:
In filter 3, that sideband is screened out of this spectrum, which in .der
Frequency corresponds to the used standard frequency carrier mfq. The frequency
: this carrier and thus the filter 3 should as possible inside or just outside
of the range of variation .des oscillator 4 lie. In the Pb: asendiskriminator 5 becomes
the sideband filtered out by the filter 3 is mixed with the normal frequency carrier mfq
and the control voltage obtained therefrom in a known manner via low-pass filter 6, 7 dem
Nachstimmorgan the oscillator 4 supplied.
In practice, the distortion of the basic normal frequency fq becomes immediate
in the mixer stage i, so that the separate distortion 2 is omitted.
nach diesem Verfahren arbeitet, zeigt Abb. 3.In the event that .within: the range of variation there is a large number
of synchronization frequencies should be available and thus a normal frequency spectrum
high density is required, is according to a further embodiment of the invention
proceed as follows: The oscillator frequency becomes a double modulation
subject to a first modulation with a spectrum of the fundamental frequency nfq
takes place and from, the resulting spectrum a side, hand in: the vicinity of the normal frequency carrier
mfQ is screened out. This side band is in turn with its sifting
modulated to the spectrum of the normal fundamental frequency. From the resulting sideband spectrum.
the frequency is now: sifted out with the normal frequency carrier mfq for extraction
the control voltage for the oscillator frequency is mixed. An arrangement that
works according to this procedure, Fig. 3 shows.
The voltage of the oscillator 4 is first modulated in the modulator 8 with a normal frequency nfq: which is distorted in the distortion device 9. Let this normal frequency nfq be an integral multiple of the normal fundamental frequency f . B. io f ". In this way, a sideband spectrum of lower density initially arises at the output ges modulator 8. The filter io is tuned to the normal carrier frequency mfq and should have a bandwidth equal to or greater than nfq The filter 3 modulates the sidebands filtered out with the distorted normal fundamental frequency fq so that a new sideband spectrum of the desired high density is produced.
By t the retuning control voltage supplied by the phase discriminator 5
to be adequately freed from residues of the normal frequencies and thus an undesirable one
To avoid phase modulation of the oscillator 4, is in the previously known arrangements
a low-pass element: d 6, 7 with a relatively high Zet constant. This limits
however, the area within which the synchronization catches heavily.
geringerer Ordnungszahl, also 2 fQ, 3 fq usw. @abgegl-ichen. Dadurch
According to a further embodiment of the invention, instead of the low-pass element or in addition to it, a series of blocking circuits ii should be connected in the control line (Dependent 4). These trap circuits are set to the normal fundamental frequency f, which arises in the phase discriminator 5 as a result of rectification. and their lower harmonics, i.e. 2 fQ, 3 fq etc. @ balanced. As a result, these frequencies can be kept away from the retuning organ of the oscillator without the running time for the lower-frequency control voltages being impaired and the catching range of the synchronization being narrowed.
An extension of the capture range, the synchronization while remaining the same
Time constant of the low-pass element can according to a further embodiment of the invention
can also be achieved with an arrangement according to Fig. 5. Here contains the low-pass element
in: series branch two p = parallel-connected and mutually polarized rectifier sections
12. Since in the synchronized state no current flows through this series branch,
the rectifier sections have their zero point resistance, which is in connection
with the transverse capacitance 7, the time constant required to suppress the interference frequencies
results. In the unsynchronized state, the phase discriminator supplies a beat voltage,
and those required for reloading the capacity 7 flow via the series branch 12
Currents. Accordingly, the resistance of the series branch becomes smaller, and it results
get a wider sync capture range.
