Die Lösung enthält jetzt i Mol N-ß-Oxyäthyl-N-methyl-aminoäthyl-oleat
Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry, Bd. 67, Nr. --, S. 45.)
The following examples show how the process of the invention can be carried out. Example i 149 g of triethanolamine are carefully added to a benzene solution of 284 g of stearic acid. The benzene soap solution is then heated in a reflux condenser with a water separator until 18 g of water have separated and the acid number of the reaction mixture has fallen below 5. The solution of this monostearic acid ester of triethanolamine is then added in an equimolar ratio to N-ß-chloroethyl-oleoylamide, which for itself. by treating 1 mole of N-ß-oxyethyl-oleoylamide with 1/3 mole of phosphorus trichloride while maintaining the reaction temperature between 6o and 7o ° by slight cooling. The mixture is refluxed for 4 hours, the quaternary ammonium chloride containing an amide and an ester group being formed. Finally, the benzene is removed by distillation and the pasty product is isolated. This material easily forms emulsions in water and can be used in the form of an aqueous paste as a textile auxiliary. The quaternary ammonium chloride containing an amide and an ester group is a compound according to the general formula given above, in which R - CO is the oleoyl radical C17 H33 - C 0-, Ra and Rb H, Re - C Hz - C H2 -, Rd and Re -CH, - C H2 - O H, - CO - Rf is the stearoyl radical - CH - C17Hss and X is Cl. EXAMPLE N-methyldiethanolamine (iig g) is gradually added to a solution of oleic acid (282 g) in 500 g of toluene and the mixture is heated on the reflux condenser with a water separator until 18 g of water have separated. The solution now contains 1 mole of N-ß-oxyethyl-N-methyl-aminoethyl oleate and, without isolating the ester, is reacted with 1 mole of N-ß-chloroethyl-N-benzyloleoylamide, which is obtained by treating 1 mole of N-ß -Oxyethyl-N-benzyloleoylamide with 1/3 mol of phosphorus trichloride while maintaining a reaction temperature of 6o to 7o ° by external cooling and stirring of the reaction mixture for 1/2 hour after the end of the chloride addition. The reaction is then carried out by heating the mixture of the two reactants for 4 hours. The solvent is then removed in vacuo, leaving a butter-like mass which is easily dispersed in the water and has the above-mentioned properties when used for treating textiles. The reaction proceeds up to 20% of the theoretical conversion, as was determined by determining the content of the cationic surfactant in the reaction mixture. (The test method was that of TV Barr, J. Oliver and WV Stubbin, Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry, Vol. 67, No.-, p. 45.) The reaction product is a compound of the general formula given above, wherein R - C 0 - the oleoyl radical C17 H33 - C 0 -, Ra the benzyl group C, Hs-CH2-, Rb H, Re -CH2-CH2-, Rd -CH3, Re -CH, -CHZOH, -CO-Rf the Oleoyl radical is C17 H33 - CO - and X is Cl. Example 3 The equimolecular amount of N-ß-chloroethyl-N-methyl-lauroylamide is added to N, N- [bis- (ß-oxyethyl)] aminoethyl oleate, prepared according to British patent specification 587534, which is then added separately by treatment of 1 mole of N-ß-oxyethyl-N-methyl-lauroylamide with 1 mole of thionyl chloride at 6o ° with stirring and cooling and ending the reaction by stirring at 6o ° for a further hour. The two reactants are mixed and heated to 120 ° for 4 hours, during which the quaternization of the amino ester by means of the chloroethylamide can come to an end. On cooling, the product solidifies to a stiff paste, which is easily dispersed in water and is used as a textile auxiliary.
