In this way, after removing the tray from the outer carton, it is possible to remove the cover foil from the tray, place the tray with the ready meal inside it back into the outer carton and then heat the ready meal in the microwave oven. (Heating the ready meal with the foil still on the tray is not recommended if the foil is made of aluminum, and may be undesirable if it is made of plastic.) The outer carton therefore serves

it protects the person handling it from possible overheating of the bowl.

A further development of the innovation is that the two cardboard parts have organs that allow the two parts to be loosely held together again after they have been separated. The cardboard can then be loosely closed again after the tray has been inserted.

The marking is preferably designed as a perforation. Obviously, other material weakenings are also conceivable, especially those that allow the separation to be carried out using a pinger nail.

If the lid part can be folded away from the rest of the carton, the mentioned elements are preferably formed by at least one tab and at least one tab insertion slot.

Finally, it is useful if the lid part is located above the bowl.

Fig. 1 to 3 show an outer carton according to the innovation in different situations.

In the figures, 1 denotes a lid part, 2 denotes a remaining part of an outer carton, 3 denotes a perforation between the lid part and the remaining part, 4 denotes insertion slots and 5 denotes tabs on the lid part.

Figure 1 shows the outer carton in the closed state, with the perforation 3 intact.

Figure 2 shows the outer carton with the lid open.

Figure 3 shows the outer carton in the form in which the tabs 5 are inserted into the slots 4.

Packaging unit for ready meals, consisting of an outer carton and a tray therein, in which the ready meal is located and which is provided with a cover film, characterized in that the outer carton has a linear marking (3) in the form of a weakened portion of the material, which divides it into a lid part (1) and a remaining part (2) and, after separating the carton material along this marking (3), allows the lid part (1) to be folded down or removed from the remaining part (2). 2. Packaging unit according to claim 1, characterized in that the two cardboard parts (1, 2) have members (4, 5) which allow the two parts (1, 2) to be loosely held together again after separation. 3· Packaging unit according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the marking (3) is designed as a perforation. 4. Packaging unit according to claim 2 or 3, characterized in that when the lid part (1) can be folded away from the remaining part (2), the elements (4, 5) are formed by at least one tab (5) and at least one tab insertion slot (4). 5. Packaging unit according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the lid part (1) is located above the tray.
