Description

Process for increasing the performance of shredding machines for tough and. elastic waste materials The processing of the regularly occurring considerable Amounts of waste materials from old rubber or other tough or elastic materials, such as thermoplastics, presents considerable difficulties. As a result Their toughness requires large machine units with a relatively low throughput cause high power consumption. This also results in many undesirable ones Heat build-up in the material to be shredded, which is technically unfavorable affects and also affects the quality of the material. For these reasons it is often the case that these waste materials, such as rubber in particular, are dispensed with regenerate.

The invention is based on the knowledge that it by a pretreatment is possible to temporarily increase the toughness and strength of such materials reduce without impairing the properties of the regrind to any significant extent will. According to the invention, the waste materials are initially mixed with an O_uellmittel treated and then given through the shredding device, whereupon the dueling agent is removed from the comminuted material and possibly recovered. There is various organic liquids which have the property of being such viscous and elastic waste materials, such as old rubber, thermoplastics and the like, to swell and thereby soften. They include, in particular, chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as B. trichlorethylene, which is particularly suitable for waste rubber. For others Waste materials such as B. thermoplastic Plastics, ever Depending on their chemical nature, other means of dueling may be used.

By including the duel agent, z. B. of trichlorethylene is the strength of the material to be shredded is greatly reduced for a short time, so that the grinding can be done with a fraction of the force previously required and the throughput of the shredding machine increases by the Multiples, namely by about ten times the amount, learns.

For example, old car tires are first put in a bath for 2 hours laid by trichlorethylene. This reduces the strength of the vulcanized Rubber so strong that it can be broken up with a fingernail. Appropriate a smaller amount of dueling agent is used than the absorption capacity of the waste materials is equivalent to. The exact amount will vary with the length of treatment. In general if it is less than 10 percent by weight. The treated mass is then passed through a crusher, z. B. given a face plate mill with a zone of radially directed gear ribs. The shredded material is then heated or by vacuum or also by Using both means freed from the trichlorethylene that was caught and can be used again.

The properties of the old rubber obtained have not changed much and has almost the original strength values. Material from car tires loses only about 100% of its tensile strength and only about 7% of its elongation.
