Description
Method of soldering metal parts by immersion in a molten salt bath A method has already been proposed in which the parts to be soldered be immersed in a molten salt bath and also immersed during the immersion Direct current is passed through the bath and workpiece, so that the workpiece is cathodic being polarized. In practical implementation, however, it has been found that the anodic oxygen as well as the oxygen absorbed from the air by the weld pool Oxygen can have a disruptive effect to a certain extent. It is therefore one Elimination of oxygen, especially the development of O2, by means of depolarization agents expedient. This can be achieved according to the invention in a simple manner. be by one in the melt an additional strong reducing agent, its reducing Effect triggered by the melt, brings in. The reducing agent will if possible arranged at the bottom of the melt.
It has proven particularly useful when using a sodium carbonate melt Carbon has proven its worth as an additional reducing agent. The carbon is in shape introduced by coke or as carbides such as calcium carbide. He reacts with the sodium carbonate melt according to the following equation: Na, C03 + 2C = Na2 + 3C0. That The resulting sodium metal has an extremely strong reducing and depolarizing effect. Even small amounts of oxygen are removed immediately with the formation of sodium oxide, the carbon dioxide escapes and produces an excellent stirring which is quite desirable of the bathroom. As soon as the carbon dioxide passes through the surface of the bath into the open air, it ignites and burns to carbon oxide, since the melt has a temperature of about goo °.
The introduction of the coke can be done, for example, so that the Coke is filled into a small perforated iron basket that is closed at the top and is open at the bottom. This basket is brought to the bottom of the jar, like this that the evolved sodium and the carbon monoxide rise from below through the melt and this is exposed to the reducing effect in its entirety.
