Packing pillows for thermotherapy, especially cold therapy

Description according to § 6 GbmAnmV:

The invention relates to pack cushions ^for thermotherapy, in particular cold therapy.

The cushion is made of flexible KJ.srsichtfolie filled with a temperature-securing liquid &igr;:&igr;&agr; a suitable insert material.

This pack is used in thermotherapy to transfer cold or heat to the parts of the patient's body that are to be treated. The pillow is cooled in a suitable cold liquid or freezer. It is heated in a water bath or in a microwave oven.

The requirement is that the pillow

1. a 5$ute temperature storage capacity,

2. has a uniform temperature output, and

3. is so flexible at any temperature that it adapts optimally to the body surface.

Heat transfer only occurs on the surface of the pillow.

In order to significantly improve heat transfer and storage, suitable plastic beads are incorporated into the temperature-storing liquid, which remain flexible in both cold and heat and improve temperature renvection.

The beads are ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers with a vinyl acetate content of 10 - 40%, high temperature stability and good thermal conductivity.

Our bulk material consists of copolymers, to which we adapt the density of our cooling liquid in order to constantly achieve an even distribution of the beads in the refrigerated goods.

This results in a significantly better heat convection flow than with comparable inventions, where the corresponding plastic beads are deposited on the upper side of the cushion and thus enable one-sided temperature radiation, but prevent any desired convection flow.

In our invention, the desired one-sided heat radiation is not achieved at the expense of the convection flow, but rather through our specially developed "fabric cover" described in the following paragraph.

In thermotherapy with these pack pillows, the current temperature is of interest in addition to the temperature output. A warm (over +10 C) pillow has absolutely no therapeutic effect in cold therapy.

Therefore, by coloring the gel or the plastic cover with a temperature-sensitive dye, an essential requirement of the user is met: to be constantly informed about the current temperature of the thermal cushion. With this special cover dye, it is possible to read the therapeutically required temperature and the temperature release curve based on the color of the gel or cover.
The color change occurs either from 1st color to another color,

In order to avoid burns or hypothermia, it is important that the cooling pad is placed in a suitable fabric cover.

This bag is made of thin linen or cotton fabric on the radiation side (skin protection).

To ensure increased protection against heat radiation, the opposite side facing away from the body is made of felt or heat-insulating material (insulation).

The bag is washable and therefore suitable for reuse, also from a hygienic point of view.
