Es ist also am besten, das Pulver zu entzünden, ehe es in den Feuerraum gelangt. Auf dem Rost α ist vor der Platte c (bei A) ein Entzündungsfeuer angemacht. Die Flamme desselben streicht hinter der· Platte c hin, erhitzt diese und tritt in B heraus, woselbst sie das von der Platte c hera^geblasene Pulver trifft und entzündet. Damit die Flamme das Pulver um so sicherer treffen kann, ist auf dem Rost α dicht hinter der Platte c eine Brücke b angebracht, welche die Entzündungsflamme aufwärts richtet. Unter dem Roste, gerade unterhalb der Brücke b, be-, findet sich eine Klappe h. Beim Oeffnen der letzteren strömt die Luft aus dem Aschenraum C durch den hinter der Brücke b liegenden Theil i des Rostes a, wodurch der Zug nach Wunsch so geregelt werden kann, dafs er entweder durch A oder durch i in den eingentlichen, hinter dem beschriebenen Ofen gelegenen Feuerraum gelangen kann.The furnace is approximately in the middle of its length with a transverse bridge and a little above the grate respectively.
