The innovation relates to a walkway element made of safety grate sections.

In underground mining operations, the often very uneven roadbed represents a danger point for the miners travelling along the road. In order to eliminate this source of danger, efforts are being made to make it easier to travel along the road by placing walkways on the roadbed, particularly since the poor lighting above ground means that any protruding rock particles cannot be seen by the miners travelling along the road.

The innovation is based on the task of creating a walkway element that can be laid on the track floor, whereby the individual walkway elements are coupled to one another so that unintentional displacement is not possible, while on the other hand bending the plane of one walkway element relative to the plane of the other walkway element are possible. The innovation is also based on the task of enabling damaged walkway elements to be replaced quickly without having to remove very long sections of track.

This problem underlying the innovation is solved by the teaching of the main claim.

In other words, it is proposed that each walkway element has hooks on one of its front edges, preferably two hooks, which can engage behind a crossbar of the other walkway element, which acts as a locking bar. The walkway element 2 has an end edge 4 and is also U-shaped, with a cross bar 6 being provided within the U, which is preferably designed as a round bar and extends over the entire width of the walkway element.

The arrangement of hook 5 and crossbar 6 is such that when the two elements 1 and 2 are slightly bent against each other, the hook 5 can be inserted into the space behind the crossbar 6 so that the hook part 7 engages behind the crossbar 6. The distance between the inner edge 11 of the hook part and the end edge 3 is selected so that it is greater than the distance of the crossbar 6 from its inner edge 4, so that preferably a space remains here that allows for displacement, which is approximately 10 mm.

This choice of size, particularly in conjunction with the bevel 10, makes it possible to angle the individual walkway elements 1 and 2 against each other by an angle of approximately 32°. This interaction of the angle and the possibility of movement aligned along the longitudinal axis makes it possible to release an element by lifting one or two walkway elements without having to pick up the walkway elements over the entire length of the route if repairs to an element are required.
