Container for holding video cassettes and compact discs

The innovation relates to a container for holding cassettes, preferably video cassettes and compact discs (CDs), with two covers which are connected to one another by a spine and which enclose a hollow space. In particular, the innovation relates to a container in the form of a book for holding video cassettes or compact discs (CDs) (t\\\ 2We? dyr?h two book covers which are connected to one another by a flexible spine and which enclose a hollow space.

C) Such containers have been well known for several years. They are

often provided with neutral decorations and ornaments, but are also provided with title pages with information about the storage content of the video cassette. Such containers are not known for compact discs.

The dimensions of the containers currently on the market are roughly equivalent to those of a book, i.e. height x width x thickness are approximately 21.5 x 13.5 x 3.5 cm. This means that these containers for video cassettes have exactly the same difficulties when placed on bookshelves as they do with books. Bookcase compartments are usually around 35 cm deep and usually have a variable height. In other words, when storing such books, the space in the bookshelf is only used to less than half, or two rows of books are placed one behind the other. It is obvious that this does not make it any easier to access the books at the back.

Exactly the same applies to video cassettes in book form.

In order to remedy this problem, the innovation proposes that a container of the type mentioned at the beginning accommodate more than one cassette in one container. According to the innovation, this is achieved by providing at least two compartments for cassettes in the container, which are either accommodated in a cover each, but preferably in compartments attached to the book covers, which complement each other to form a cassette compartment.

Further features of the innovation can be found in the additional protection claims.

The innovation is now described in more detail using examples in conjunction with the attached drawings.

Fig. 7 shows a fifth embodiment in principle according to the invention, and

Fig. 8 shows another embodiment of the invention for compact discs.

As can be seen from Fig. 1, the new container for video cassettes contains more than one cassette. The container 1 consists of a front lid 2 _, a rear lid 3 and a locking mechanism _which fastens _{the two lids together} .

Two compartments 5 and 6, each for holding a video cassette. The front cover 2 contains two compartments 7a and 7b, and the rear cover 3 contains two compartments 8a and 8b.

It is clear that compartments 7a and 8b together form compartment 6, while compartments 7b and 8a together form compartment 5. Otherwise, this container is constructed in a commercially available manner.

Fig. 2 then shows this embodiment of the innovation from the side. Again, you can see the front cover 2, the back cover 3 and the spine 4 connecting both covers.

A further embodiment according to Fig. 3 has two compartments 9a and 9b in the front cover 2, which are arranged one above the other. Likewise, the rear cover 3 has two compartments 10a and 10b, which are also arranged one above the other. Again, the compartments 9a and 10a together form a compartment for receiving a video cassette. In the same way, the compartments 9b and 10b form a similar compartment.

Regarding these two embodiments, it should be noted that the two book covers are drawn with the same thickness. However, this is not absolutely necessary. One cover could also have a deeper profile or deeper compartments, while the profile or compartments of the other book cover

The ceiling is chosen to be lower. It is important that the two compartments can each hold a whole video cassette.

Another embodiment is shown in Fig. 4. Here, each of the two covers 2 and 3 contains three compartments 11a, 11b and 11c or 12a, 12b and 12c, which together form three compartments for accommodating video cassettes.

From this embodiment, a final embodiment of the innovation was finally developed, which is shown in principle in section. The two book covers, connected to one another by the spine 13, each contain two complete video cassettes, namely 5a and 5b or 6a and 6b (Fig. 7).

In principle, it is easily conceivable to develop this design in accordance with the innovation into one with three video cassettes in each book cover.

This innovation creates a container for video cassettes, which allows for much greater use of space on bookshelves when storing video cassettes .

Fig. 8 shows an embodiment of a container for compact discs (CDs), also in book form.

Identical parts are provided with the same reference symbols.

The container 1 consists of a front lid 2, a rear lid 3 and a spine 4 connecting both lids. Each of the lids contains two compartments 14, 15 and 16, 17 to accommodate one compact disc each. The all-round edge strips have locking lugs 18 on each inner side, which are slightly flexible or elastic, so that the compact disc clicks into place when inserted and is thus held in place.

The edge strips facing the spine each contain a recessed grip 19, which makes it easier to remove the compact disc.

In this way, compact discs can be stored in bookshelves in a much more space-saving manner.

Claims (10)

PROTECTION CLAIMS . Container for holding video cassettes or compact discs (CD) in the form of a book (1) with two book covers (2, 3) connected to one another by a flexible spine (4) and enclosing a hollow space, characterized in that at least two compartments for cassettes or compact discs (CD) are provided in the container. 2. Container according to claim 1, characterized in that in each book cover at least two compartments (7, 8) are provided which complement the compartments of the other book cover to form a compartment. 3. Container according to claim 1, characterized in that in each book cover (2, 3), seen from the spine, two compartments (7, 8) are arranged one behind the other. 4. Container according to claim 1, characterized in that in each book cover, seen from the spine, two compartments (9, &idiagr;&thetas;) are arranged one above the other, 5. Container according to claim 1, characterized in that in each of the book covers, viewed from the spine, three compartments (11, 12) are arranged one behind the other, which together with the compartments of the other book cover form three compartments for receiving cassettes. 6. Container according to claim 1 ₇ , characterized in that in each book cover there is provided a compartment (5, 6) for completely accommodating one video cassette each, and that the book spine (13) has a corresponding width. 7. Container according to claim 1 and 5, characterized in that in each book cover two compartments (5a, 5b, 6a, 6b) are provided for the complete accommodation of video cassettes. 8. Container according to claim 1 and 7, characterized at least by the fact that in each book cover there are two compartments for Compact Discs (CD's) are arranged. 9. Container according to claim 1 and 7, characterized in that in each book cover two compartments for compact discs (CDs) are arranged one above the other. 10.
