Durch die Halogenverbindungen wird die Stahloberfläche so verändert, daB eine Stickstoffaufnahme stattfindet, wobei die gleichen Härtetiefen erzielt werden können, wie sie sonst an den Nitrierstäblen erhalten «-erden.
