Pallet support frame

The innovation concerns a pallet attachment frame/ which is assembled from side walls using corner connectors in the manner of a bottomless rack.

By attaching a stacking frame, a pallet can be turned into a rack. Stacking frames secure loads stacked on a pallet during transport on the pallets from the shipping location to the recipient.

After the pallets have been unloaded, they and the pallet collars are transported back to the shipping location as empty containers/ to be reused. Pallets can be easily stacked, which means that the loading capacity of a transport vehicle can be used relatively optimally. However, pallet collars are relatively bulky and take up more transport space.

It is known that the problem of poor utilization of transport capacity can be reduced by using stacking frames made up of individual parts that can be assembled in a modular fashion. However, this requires working time for assembling the individual parts to form a stacking frame or for

disassembling a mounting frame before returning it to the shipping location.

However, this solution is relatively expensive/ because the hinge bands have to be carefully mounted in order to enable the collar frame to be opened or folded up properly. This contradicts the efforts/ to keep the proportion of packaging costs to the total cost of the goods to be shipped as low as possible.

The innovation is based on the task of designing a collapsible attachment frame without having to accept a significant increase in production costs.

According to the innovation, this task is solved by placing corner posts on the inner surfaces of two opposite side surfaces in the area of their ends involved in forming a corner, running transversely to the longitudinal axis of the side walls, the corner connectors being flexible pins and each pin extending from the outside through a corner post-free side wall involved in forming a corner, in the area of an outer vertical free edge of the associated corner post into the corner post*

The special way of attaching the corner connectors, which are designed as flexible pins and do not extend into a surface of the corner post as is usual with nailed boxes,

but are driven in in such a way that they penetrate a free edge of the corner post, enabling the attachment frame to be folded up or opened by bending the flexible pins. The side wall without corner posts, which is penetrated by flexible pins, rolls along the free edge of the respective corner post during a folding movement.

The manufacturing costs of the new attachment frame are no higher than for an attachment frame in a conventional nailed construction. However, due to the special attachment of the corner connectors in combination with the corner posts, the attachment frame, which can be manufactured inexpensively, is advantageously foldable.

The attachment frame can be opened or folded several times before the bendable pins can break. However, by selecting the right material for the bendable pins, the number of possible folding operations can be increased. In addition, a broken pin can be easily replaced by simply nailing in a new pin.

The corner posts preferably have a square profile, so they can be made of simple wooden slats«

Each flexible pin is driven through the corner post-free side wall into the corner post in such a way that it runs approximately diagonally from the free edge into the square corner post.

For the side walls and corner posts, wood is preferably used, although plastics can also be used into which flexible pins can be driven, so that a nail construction of the attachment frame made of such a material is possible. A combination of wood and plastic can also be chosen for the attachment frame.

The side walls can be designed in the form of slatted constructions, which are common for boxes. Closed side walls in the form of one-piece panels are also possible.

Each flexible pin is a wire pin that can be nailed in. It can also be advantageous for each flexible pin to be the leg of a U-shaped double pin made of iron wire. U-shaped double pins can be driven into nailable material, especially wood, like staples using appropriate equipment, so that the innovative, foldable attachment frame can be manufactured in the simplest possible way and at low cost.

Fig. 1 shows a schematic view of a pallet attachment frame with side walls 2, 2* and 3/3* nailed together from slats 1. Strips 4 projecting above the attachment frame are nailed to the side walls 2 and 2', which serve to fix the nailed attachment frame to a pallet (not shown in more detail). The side walls 3 and 3* are provided with corner posts 5 with a square profile. These corner posts are connected to the corresponding slats 1 of the side walls 3 and 3' in a manner known per se by nailing. Corner connectors / which connect the side walls 2 and 2' involved in forming a corner with the side walls 3 and 3* / are indicated by dashed lines 6.

In Fig. 2, a corner of the mounting frame in Fig. 1, marked by a circle, is shown in section on an enlarged scale. Identical components are designated with the same reference numbers. Fig. 2 shows how the corner post 5 is connected to the strips 1 of the side wall 3 via nails 7. The back connectors, which are only indicated by the dashed line 6 in Fig. 1, are made of flexible pins 8 which are driven from the outside through the strip 1 of the side wall 2 and extend approximately diagonally over the free edge 9 of the corner post 5.

nal into the corner post. This allows the attachment frame to be folded around the free edge as shown in Fig. 1 by bending the flexible pin 8, resulting in the folding of the attachment frame as shown schematically in Fig. 3.

In Fig. 3, identical components are again designated with identical reference numbers. The upper right corner is again marked by a circle and this detail is also shown in Fig. 4 in an enlarged cross-section, in which identical components are again designated with identical reference numbers. Fig. 4 shows how the flexible pin 8 used as a corner connector enables the side wall 2 to roll along the free edge 9 of the corner post 5 when the attachment frame is folded together.

Expectations: 1. Top frame for a pallet/ which is assembled from side walls using corner connectors in the manner of a bottomless box/ characterized/ that corner posts (5) running transversely to the longitudinal axis of the side walls (3 _r 3*) are placed on the inner surfaces of two side walls (3/3*) lying opposite one another in the region of their ends involved in forming a corner; that the corner connectors are bendable pins (8) and that each pin (8) extends from the outside through a corner-post-free side wall (2/2*) involved in forming a corner in the region of an outer vertical free edge (9) of the respective associated corner post (5) into the corner post (5). 2^_ Attachment frame according to claim 1/ characterized in that each corner post (5) has a square profile. 3j_ A frame according to claims 1 and 2, characterized in that each flexible pin (8) runs approximately diagonally into the square corner post (5). 4^ A mounting frame according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the material for the side winches (2/2';3/3') and corner posts (5) is wood.
