Guide rail profile for the rollers of a moving walkway

The innovation relates to a guide rail profile for the rollers of the counter-rotating forward and backward pallets of a moving walkway in the section between the reversing areas.

To cope with the growing demand for passenger traffic, especially in transport hubs such as airports and train stations, mechanical passenger transport systems are increasingly being used. Particularly suitable for this are moving walkways, which in horizontal design can reach lengths of over 100 m. In such moving walkways, the forward and return pallets run in opposite directions, one above the other. They are arranged within a supporting structure that has side balustrades with a handrail running all the way around the top, and cross beams are provided that connect the two side walls at certain intervals.

With such moving walkways it is extremely difficult to precisely align the tracks of the rollers of the forward and backward pallets with each other over a large length and to maintain their unalterable location.

The aim of the innovation is to make the assembly of the roller tracks of the forward and return pallets of a moving walkway as easy as possible, in particular to make it easy to establish and maintain their exact position relative to one another.

■A chain guide for moving vehicles on rails is already known, in which the forward and return strands of the chain run above and below the middle leg of a �EEgr; profile that is partially covered at the top and closed at the bottom by a base plate. Chain guide rollers are arranged on a bridge over the H-profile on both sides, which run along the vertical walls of the profile (British patent specification 1 563 953).

In this arrangement, no rollers are ever provided for the forward or reverse movement of the transport and power transmission means. In particular, the known arrangement does not provide any indication of how two roller tracks can be easily positioned relative to one another and kept in this position.

The solution to the above problem is seen in the fact that a U-shaped profile is provided, which is connected to two legs by a bridge, is open on one side and is arranged lying on one leg, the inside of the support leg of which represents the track for the rollers of the return pallets and the outside of the free leg of which represents the track for the rollers of the forward pallets.

Further developments of the innovation are described in subclaims.

The advantage of the innovation is that by providing a common profile for the two roller tracks of the forward and return pallets, their position relative to one another can be specified in an unchangeable manner. Such profiles can also be manufactured in great lengths, so that the moving walkway can also be constructed from just a few roller track sections. Their longitudinal alignment relative to one another is then also considerably simplified. The time required for their assembly is significantly reduced.

The innovation offers the further advantage that, due to the profile being able to ensure the running paths of the rollers of the forward and return pallets, the previously usual and necessary support body for the moving walkway can be dispensed with.

Each moving walkway profile can be fixed directly to the floor, whereby it is sufficiently fixed in position relative to one another. As a result, the crossbeams that were previously required to fix and maintain the location of the moving walkways can be dispensed with. This meant that a minimum height of the moving walkway pallets was required, which can now be significantly reduced. This means that special recesses in the floor of halls in which the moving walkways are intended, or if these are subsequently laid on the floors, considerably high ramps for the inflow and outflow of the flow of people can be avoided. The middle section of the moving walkway can be made considerably flatter without, of course, excluding the installation of crossbeams if required.

The innovation is described in more detail below using an example shown schematically in the drawing. Figures 1-4 show sections of a moving walkway in cross-section, in which the further developments of the innovation are also shown.

In Fig. 1, the guide rail profile for the rollers (2,3) of the counter-rotating forward and return pallets of a moving walkway is shown in the section between the reversing areas. It is clear that a roller with two legs (4,5)

a U-shaped profile (1) is provided, connected by a bridge (6), open on one side and arranged lying on a leg (5), the inside of the support leg (7) of which represents the track for the rollers (3) of the return pallet (8) and the outside of the free leg (9) of which represents the track for the rollers (2) of the forward pallets (1ö). The illustration in Fig. 1 illustrates an arrangement in which, in the conventional manner, the profile rail (1) is mounted on a cross member (121) within a support frame (13). Above the support frame (13) the moving walkway side walls (14) and the balustrade (15) towards the lead pallet can be seen.

In Fig. 2, the two-leg U-shaped profile (1) is further developed by a third leg (16), which is connected to the free leg in the same way as the free leg is connected to the support leg by an additional bridge (17). The inside of the third leg (18) then represents the counter-guide for the rollers (2) of the feed pallet (1o).

In this embodiment, the guide rail profile (1) is mounted indirectly via a support (19) on the floor (2o) using known fastening elements (21)»

In the arrangements of both figures, the forward and reverse movement of the moving walkway chain (22) is provided between the pallet belt and the rollers.

In Fig. 3, the guide rail profile (1) encloses rollers (3) that run within the outer chain cheeks (23, 23b) and inner chain cheeks (24a, 24b) of the moving walkway chain (22).

In Fig. 4, the further development of the guide rail profile corresponding to Fig. 2 is shown by a third leg. It is also made clear that, apart from a compensating support (25), the guide rail profile (1) can also be fixed directly to the floor (2o) using fastening elements known per se.

In the arrangements of the figures, each track of the rollers (2,3) is provided with at least one lateral guide (26a,b,c,d,e,f,g",h).

What is not shown in more detail in the arrangements of the figures described above is that the individual legs of the guide rail profile (1) can be further developed with a shape for collecting lubricants.

The drawing ultimately shows that each moving walkway is provided with two guide rails facing each other with their open profile sides.
