Description

The invention relates to a hinged box made of foldable material, such as cardboard or the like, with a substantially cuboid shape, in particular for receiving a group of cigarettes 5 wrapped in an inner blank (tinfoil block), with a box part and a hinged lid hinged to a rear wall of the same, which in the closed position comprises a collar connected to the box part.

The invention is based on the object of designing a hinged box of the initially mentioned design while maintaining the structural design and functionality in such a way that the material expenditure is reduced compared to conventional hinged boxes.

To achieve this object, the hinged box according to the invention is characterized in that (upright) longitudinal edges of the box part, the hinged lid and the collar are rounded, the radius of the rounding corresponding (approximately) to that of a cigarette.

The rounded longitudinal edges result in material savings, firstly because the hinged box fits closely and positively to the outer contour of the pack contents, namely the group of cigarettes. In conventional "edged" hinged boxes, there is a lack of optimal material utilization in the area of the longitudinal edges, since a hollow space remains here above the cigarettes lying at the corners. In the invention, the tinfoil block is surrounded practically exactly in a positive fit, thus saving material.

Furthermore, according to the invention, material savings are achieved by the fact that the inner and outer side flaps and the lid side flaps are designed with a smaller width than in conventional hinged boxes. These narrower side flaps and the lid side flaps are located to form Side walls and cover side walls only meet in the area outside the curves of the long edges. The relevant side flaps and cover side flaps therefore require less material.

The handling of the package is also advantageous, as it is easier to grasp due to the rounded longitudinal edges.

According to another proposal, the collar is equipped with a locking tab formed by punching in the area of the curve, which protrudes slightly beyond the side contours of the collar and, when the hinged lid is in the closed position, catches behind an edge of the inner side flap of the lid. To open the hinged box by swinging the hinged lid back, the locking tab is deformed so that the lid can be operated in the usual way.

A further proposal according to the invention for locking the hinged lid in the closed position consists in that a downwardly directed, folded-over anchoring tab is formed in the region of a collar front wall, which, in the closed position of the hinged lid, interacts with a counter edge formed on the inside of the same in the region of the front wall, in particular with the upper edge of a reinforcing strip on the inside of the hinged lid.

The folding boxes made of thin cardboard or thin paperboard shown in the drawings are used to hold cigarettes, namely a group of cigarettes that is wrapped in an inner blank, in particular in a tinfoil blank (not shown). The almost cuboid shaped tinfoil block fits snugly and positively into the hinged box.

According to Fig. 1, the hinged box consists of a box part 10 and a hinged lid 11. The former is formed by a front wall 12, side walls 13, rear wall 14 and bottom wall 15. The hinged lid 11 is connected to the rear wall 14 in the area of a hinge line 16.

The hinged lid 11 consists, analogously to the box part 10, of a lid front wall 17, lid side walls 18 and 19, a lid rear wall 20 (in connection with the rear wall 14 of the box part 10) and a lid top wall 21.

-&dgr;- In the sense of the conventional design of a hinged box, a collar 22 is inserted into the box part 10, which consists of a collar front wall 23 and collar side walls 24 and 25. The lower part of the collar 22 is connected to the front wall 12 and the side walls 13. An upper area protrudes from the box part 10 and is enclosed by the hinged lid 11 in the closed position.

Upright longitudinal edges 26, 27 of the box part 10 as well as the lid longitudinal edges xiviu 29 and front collar longitudinal edges 30 extending therefrom are strongly rounded, in such a way that the rounding of the aforementioned longitudinal edges corresponds to that of the cigarettes to be packaged (Fig. 7). The longitudinal edges 26..30, which are quarter-circular in cross-section, therefore have (approximately) the same radius as the cigarettes, so that these, together with the tinfoil cut-out surrounding them, fit closely to the contours of the folding box in the area of these longitudinal edges 25,.30.

A hinged box with rounded, upright longitudinal edges 26..29 can be made, for example, from a blank as shown in Fig. 4. Due to the side-closing design principle of the hinged box, the side walls 13 are formed by overlapping side tabs 31 and 32. For the cover side walls 18 and correspondingly designed cover side tabs 33 are provided in the area of the cover rear wall 20 and cover side tabs 34 in the area of the cover front wall 17. As is known in principle, bottom corner flaps 39 and lid corner flaps 40 are attached to the inside side flaps 32 and the likewise inside lid side flaps 33. In the fully folded hinged box, these lie on the inside of the bottom wall 15 and the top wall 21 of the lid. In the present design of the hinged box, the bottom corner flaps 39 and the lid corner flaps 40 are designed with a smaller width than the total width of the hinged box, namely approximately as wide as \ the adjoining side flaps 32 and cover side flaps

Furthermore, in the present case, a corresponding (curved, S-shaped) punching 41 between thin inner side tabs 32 and cover side tabs 33 causes these to be bent in relation to the associated outer side tabs 31 and cover side tabs 34. inward (Fig. 5 and 6). This offset between the inner and outer side lobes 31..34 compensates for any inaccurate relative positions between the adjacent side lobes.

The hinged box is provided with a locking mechanism for securing or stabilizing the closed position of the hinged lid.11' For this purpose, the collar 22 is provided in the lateral area, namely in the area of the collar's longitudinal edges 30, with a locking tab 42, which in effect position slightly protrudes beyond the contours of the collar ZZ . To open the hinged box, the hinged lid 11 is pivoted in the usual way, the front edge 43 of the lid side tab 33 overcoming the retaining force exerted by the locking tab 42. To facilitate this opening process, a bevel 44 is formed in the region of the lower, front corner of the inner lid side tab 33, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6.

An additional or alternative locking of the hinged lid 11 in the closed position is shown in Fig. 8 and 9. The collar front wall 23 is provided with an anchoring tab 46 by means of separating cuts 45 running adjacent to the collar longitudinal edges 30 and at a distance from them. This extends over a partial area of the collar front wall 23. By folding over, the anchoring tab 46 is brought into a position in which it is essentially directed downwards. A lower transverse edge 47 serves to lock the hinged lid 11.

This is provided on the inside in the area of the lid front wall 17 with a reinforcing tab 48, which is folded over against the inside of the lid front wall 17 and fixed here by adhesive. An upper edge 49 of the reinforcing tab 48, which is also directed transversely, is given a layer, in which it rests against the downward-facing transverse edge 47 of the anchoring tab 46 when the hinged box is closed. This is not fixed to the collar front wall 23 by gluing or in any other way, but can be freely pivoted. This allows the anchoring tab 46 to opening and closing of the hinged lid 11 follow the movements of the lid front wall 17. When producing a folding box in the present design with rounded longitudinal edges 26..29, the procedure according to Fig. 2 and 3 is such that the elongated, one-piece blank is first folded in relation to the Rounding of the longitudinal edges 26..29 is preformed. Claims 10 1. Hinged box made of foldable material, such as cardboard or the like, with a substantially cuboid shape, in particular for receiving a group of cigarettes wrapped in an inner blank (tin foil block), with a box part and a hinged lid hinged to a rear wall of the same, which in the closed position comprises a collar connected to the box part, characterized in that (upright) longitudinal edges (26, 27; 28, 29; 30) of the box part (10), the hinged lid (11) and the collar (22) are rounded, the radius of the curves corresponding (approximately) to that of a cigarette. -2- 2. Hinged box according to claim 1, characterized in that a bottom wall (15) and a lid top wall (21) with rounded corners (37, 38) abut against the associated walls in a form-fitting manner in accordance with the curves of the longitudinal edges (26..29) and without connection thereto. 3. Hinged box according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that side walls (13) or lid side walls (18, 19) are formed from superimposed side flaps (31, 32) or lid side tabs (33, 34), which are dimensioned in width such that they mutually overlap only in the area outside the curves of the longitudinal edges (26..29). 4. Hinged box according to claim 1 and one or more of the further claims, characterized in that bottom corner flaps (39) adjoining the (inside) side flaps (32) and lid corner flaps adjoining the inside lid side flaps (33) (40) are designed with a smaller width than the width of the base wall (15) or the lid upper wall (21), namely corresponding to the width of the side tabs (31) or lid side tabs (33) between the curves of the longitudinal edges (26. &ldquor;29). 5.
