Verfahren zur Hydrophobierung von halogenwasserstoffempfindlichen
Textilmaterialien, z.
Textilmaterialien, z. B. Zellulosefasern, mit Organosilicium@lialogeniden.Process for the hydrophobization of hydrogen halide sensitive
Textile materials, e.g. B. Cellulose Fibers The invention forms a novel
and a particularly advantageous process for the hydrophobization of hydrogen halide-sensitive
Textile materials, e.g. B. cellulose fibers, with organosilicon @ lialogenides.
wie z. B. tierische Wolle;
The use of organosilicon halides for the water repellency of
Textiles and textile fibers have been proposed several times. Iin general
these proposals aim at either orgariosiliciunihalogenide directly
to evaporate on the textile material or the silicon compounds in organic
Solvent solvents and the textile materials to be treated with such
Soak solution. The fixation of the organosilicon groups and thus the hydrophobization
of the textile material takes place here, possibly with heating, by direct
Implementation of the organosilicon halides with reactive ones located on the textile material
Groups, especially hydroxyl groups, it does not seem to matter whether these
O H groups belong to the base material itself or to the water film, which turns out to be
Moisture is on the surface of the material. This is a by-product
always hydrogen halide, which is known to be some textiles, especially those
made of cellulose, can damage or destroy by depolymerization. For this
The reason was the applicability of organosilicon halides for purposes of hydrophobization
so far limited to those textile materials that have only a low sensitivity
have against hydrogen halide,
such as B. animal wool;
on the other hand, according to the previously usual method, for. B. rayon more common
Quality that has a water content of about 10 to 12%, the vapors
of organosilicon halides even for only 10 seconds, the dry tensile strength decreases
of the material to 38% and less of the initial value, with a strong one
Embrittlement of the rayon is observed.
The surprising finding has now been made that fiber damage
textile materials sensitive to hydrogen halide, e.g. B. cellulose fibers such as in particular
also viscose wool, can be counteracted with success if accordingly
method according to the invention, the water content of the material to be hydrophobized
before which treatment with organosilicon halides is lowered, and is
only dependent on the fact that this previous reduction in the water content in
sufficient to ensure that the textile materials are flawless
can be made hydrophobic with organosilicon halides without damaging the fibers
entry. For this reason it has generally proven to be useful to adjust the water content
to less than 30/0, preferably about i%.
For the dehydration provided according to the invention, all can for
such appropriate measures are applied. Happens with particular advantage
this by drying the material to be hydrophobicized at an elevated temperature and / or
Bringing the same into a suitably air-conditioned room.
entstandener Halogenwasserstoff in geeigneter Weise, z.
Following the pretreatment according to the invention, the textile materials
are then harmlessly hydrophobicized with organosilicon halides, d. H. she
can either be briefly exposed or vapors of organosilicon halides
soaked with solutions of organosilicon compounds in organic solvents
be, after which then the excess of organosilicon halides as well as in the treatment
resulting hydrogen halide in a suitable manner, for. B. by simply leaving it lying around
in dry air, by evacuation and / or by treatment with neutralizing agents
Means such as B. ammonia is removed.
Materials treated in this way have the normal tear strength of the untreated material; the average degree of polymerisation of staple viscose treated in this way is around 26o compared to 280 for the untreated fiber. Cellulose fibers treated according to the invention are so strongly hydrophobic that a wad of them floats on water for days and only loses its buoyancy after about 25 vigorous kneading with water. The hydrophobizing effect achieved according to the invention is stable to boiling and washing, and hydrophobized viscose wool treated according to the invention can be dyed without difficulty. Embodiment Spun rayon with the usual moisture content (ii%) is treated at about 1o5 ° in a drying cabinet until its weight loss shows that its moisture content is less than 3%, preferably to about i 0/0, has decreased. The rayon dried in this way is exposed to the vapors of ethylsilicon chlorides, for example in such a way that small bulky rayon bulbs are allowed to fall down several times if necessary through a pipe of suitable width and length which is filled with methylsilicon chloride vapors. The duration of the action of the methyl silicon chloride is expediently between 1 and 60 seconds, preferably between 5 and 10 seconds. After the treatment with the methylsilicon chloride vapor, the rayon is spread out in a flat layer, with excess methylsilicon chloride vapor and the hydrogen chloride formed during the treatment volatilizing; This can be supported by the fact that the material is placed in a preferably dried air stream or the like. Or in a vacuum or that it is neutralizing agents, such as B. ammonia gas exposes. The staple rayon treated in this way is extremely hydrophobic, without the tear resistance and the average degree of polymerisation having suffered significantly.
