Eine Ausführungsform der Erfindung ist in der Zeichnung veranschaulicht.coaxial line and a magnetron tube of this type, in which the coaxial line completed by a tuning piston and the inner conductor can be changed in diameter. The modulation is carried out by changing the anode voltage of the magnetron. An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawing.

According to the invention, a magnetron M with multiple cavities C is used as the modulator in the illustrated embodiment. In this embodiment, the magnetron M is coupled to the waveguide G by a coaxial line Z, the characteristic impedance of which is selected so that the best matching is achieved with the magnetron. For the sake of simplicity, the waveguide G serving as a transmission line is shown in such a way that it is very schematically closed to the same impedances Zc at each end. The central rod of the coaxial line Z is coupled in a manner known per se by a loop to a cavity C of the magnetron. At the other end of the rod is connected to a piston P x , which forms an adjustable adjustment device, which is set so that the modulation curve is made as straight as possible. The required coupling is achieved by changing the diameter of the rod.

The magnetron M used, which is cut perpendicular to its axis in the drawing, consists of a cylindrical cathode K which is coated with an emitting layer L , the cavities C being coupled by gaps with the central cylindrical resonance chamber between the inner surface the anode A and the outer surface of the cathode. In addition, the various cavities C are connected to one another much more closely than in the case where the magnetron were to operate as an oscillator, thanks to the slots arranged as shown. As a practical indication, it should be mentioned that the voltage supplied to the modulator magnetron is in the order of magnitude of 200 to 300 V with a degree of modulation of 100%. Under these circumstances, the magnetic field remains the same as the resonance magnetic field given by the following equation.
