Method for disinfecting the air It is known to use air for example
in sanatoriums, assembly rooms, cinemas, theaters, etc. with the help of air conditioning systems
set to certain desired temperature and humidity conditions.
It is also known to filter this air by switching on so-called bacteria filters
to make largely sterile. This process of sterility in the air through
Bactericnfilter, however, requires a larger, not insignificant piece of equipment
as well as cost-related effort.
It is also known to air through vaporized ethylene glycol, propylene glycol
or to sterilize triethylene glycol by, for example, a heated air stream
is guided over a paddle wheel, the surfaces of which are continuously immersed in a
Bath be wetted with the named glycols. It has now been found that the disinfection
the air can be brought about with particular advantage by the fact that it is vapors
of 11lonoalkyläthern of diethylene glycol with at least 2 carbon atoms supplies what
for example, it happens that the said alkyl ethers are placed on a hot plate
evaporates. Other methods may also be used that allow
said alkyl ethers to evaporate or to evaporate, z. B. by running a
heated air flow over or passing through the surface
called alkyl ethers. The disinfecting effect of the named Alkvläther occurs
depending on the concentration of these in the room air for a shorter or longer period
Time a. Suitable alkyl ethers are, for. B. the ethyl, propyl, butyl, isobutyl ethers
of diethylene glycol.
Similarly, these can be alkyl ethers
can also be added to a moving air stream flowing through the to
air-conditioned and sterile rooms to be kept, z. B. Food storage rooms,
Breweries, dairies, meeting rooms or the like. Furthermore, on
in this way air, which is used in biological processes, for example for stirring
and is to be largely sterilized, be made sterile.
i : 25 ooo ooo keine völlige Entkeimung nach 2o Minuten Einwirkung erzielbar, während
Beispiel i 40 g Diäthylenglykolmonoäthyläther werden mittels
The effectiveness of the ethers of diethylene glycol occurs in relation to the permanent forms (spores) of the germs in the air in a shorter time and at lower concentrations in the room air than is the case with the glycols themselves. So is z. B. by using triethylene glycol in a ratio of 1: 25,000,000 no complete disinfection can be achieved after 20 minutes of exposure, while with the monoethyl ether of diethylene glycol complete disinfection is achieved after 10 minutes. Example i 40 g of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether are evaporated by means of an electric heater in a room with a volume of about 100,000 cubic meters. The concentration ratio of the said alkyl ether in the room air is therefore 1 : 25,000,000. The ratio of the germs in the room air is determined before and after evaporation. After 10 minutes, the number of germs has fallen to 0, the originally present.
Die Keimzahl sinkt auf etwa 30 % der ursprünglichen ab.EXAMPLE 2 10 g of the monobutyl ether of diethylene glycol are evaporated in a room with a volume of about 250 m 3 and its sterilizing effect is observed as before. The germ count drops to about 20% of the original germ count. EXAMPLE 3 4 g of the monoisobutyl ether of diethylene glycol are evaporated in a room with a volume of about 100 m 3 and its sterilizing effect is observed. The number of germs drops to about 30% of the original.
