Description:

Protective shields for fire fighting, especially in connection with hand-held fire extinguishers, are known in various designs.

A particularly cost-effective solution is proposed in P 35 15 410.1, in which perforated and thus sufficiently transparent, thin-walled, flexible but dimensionally stable plate-shaped shields are proposed, which can be rolled up. Even when rolled up, however, they still take up considerable storage space, especially when carried in a vehicle.

Therefore, a collapsible and rollable protective shield is proposed here, which can be manufactured very cost-effectively.

The shield according to the invention consists of plate segments that are as transparent as possible, dimensionally stable but flexible and are connected by hinge elements on one of the touching edges. This makes it possible to fold the plate segments together. The hinge elements must be bendable perpendicular to their pivot axis so that the folded plate segments can be rolled up after folding. After the plate segments have been unrolled and unfolded to form a flat shield, the shield can again be curved perpendicular to the hinge pivot axis. This prevents the segments from folding back without an additional locking device.

HENNING &idiag;; üarmstadt. 30.10.85 Vikloriaplatz 1 Tel. 0 6151/2918 98 Folding and rollable protective shield for fire fighting Patent claims: 1, Collapsible and rollable protective shield for fire fighting, in particular when using hand-held fire extinguishers, whereby the shield consists of flat, thin-walled plate-shaped segments that are as transparent as possible, flexible but dimensionally stable, characterized in that the plate segments lie largely overlapping one another in the folded-up peripheral area and are connected at one of their parallel, overlapping boundary edges by a hinge-like element (3 in Fig. 1 and 2) that is elastically or plastically bendable perpendicular to its pivot axis, so that in the folded-up state the flat plate segments can be rolled up perpendicularly or obliquely to the pivot axis of the hinge element and can be unfolded again by 180 degrees after unrolling and in this flat state a locking is carried out that prevents the plate segments from folding back 2. Protection shield according to the preceding claims, characterized in that different bending stiffnesses of the individual plate segments are produced by different plate thicknesses and/or by different material elasticity moduli of the plate material and/or by different hole patterns in the plates and/or by different geometry of the plate segments with the aim that, if a residual curvature remains after unrolling, an elastically springing back flat state of the plates is forced by folding them up with the application of force, which changes back into a curvature after they have been completely folded up by 180 degrees, whereby the plate with the higher bending stiffness forces its curvature on the plate with the lower bending stiffness and thus a stable shield according to claim 1 is created. 5. Protective shield according to the preceding claims, characterized in that the height of the plate segments of the shield is less than or equal to the height of the fire extinguisher body and that the plate segment facing the fire extinguisher body is attached to the surface in a line, parallel to the longitudinal axis of the mostly cylindrical fire extinguisher body (6 in Fig. 6) and in the folded state the plates are rolled around the fire extinguisher body, so that the structural volume of the fire extinguisher body together with the folded and rolled up shield only increases insignificantly and represents a unit.
