Description
To generate a large number of voltages with different frequencies one can use a cathode ray tube with advantage, in which the electron beam at the same time or in rapid alternation a plurality of adjacent, one another arranged in isolation, for example as metal coverings next to one another on one non-conductive plate applied electrodes. The individual electrodes are designed so that the electron flow varies in intensity is influenced and so the currents flowing through the various electrodes are different have periodic intensity fluctuations.
Such an electron beam tube is of particular importance as a generator for an electrical musical instrument. If, for example, ten metal layers are formed in such a way that the frequencies of the currents flowing through them are 1: 2: 3. . . : 1 0 , a voltage is obtained at a common external resistance which, when applied to a loudspeaker, generates an audible sound that contains nine overtones in addition to the fundamental wave. The timbre can be varied by connecting or disconnecting individual assignments. A continuously changeable timbre requires a continuously changeable resistance for each assignment.
The electron beam can be arranged in a known manner by special electrical lens systems, the electrode plane be focused in lines. The invention gives the possibility of practically the same thing without such lens systems to reach. It may even be possible to achieve special effects.
According to the invention, the electron beam is allowed to alternate rapidly commute in a direction which is at an angle of preferably with the deflection direction Forms 9o °. In particular, a high-frequency pendulum frequency is used, e.g. B. on the order of -100 kHz. The electron beam then oscillates so quickly transversely to the actual deflection direction that on the adjacent electrodes essentially the same voltage can be removed as with line-shaped Focusing the electron beam.
Wählt man z. But by using a pendulum frequency you also have it in the Hand to favor certain harmonics and disadvantage others. One chooses z. B. the pendulum frequency in the order of magnitude of the useful frequencies, so you can certain If necessary, make harmonics disappear completely. The pendulum frequency is to make this expediently changeable. There is then also the possibility to generate certain combination tones preferentially.
The application of the invention does not require any additional equipment in the cathode ray tube. It is sufficient to send a pendulum frequency to the usual deflection organs a cathode ray tube ". Examples of this are shown in FIGS 2 shown.
I shows the application of the invention with horizontal deflection and FIG. 2 with circular deflection of the electron beam. In the example of FIG. B. is generated by a tilting device. A high-frequency pendulum frequency F of z. B. ioo kHz switched on, the electron beam then oscillates in rapid alternation over the assignments B i to B 5, so that these are scanned practically on the same side in the horizontal direction. A voltage can then be picked up at a common external resistance (not shown) that contains components of the fundamental wave and the various harmonics.
In the embodiment of FIG. 2, a circular deflection of the electron beam is assumed. An alternating voltage of frequency f is connected to the deflection plate pairs AP1 and AP2 in such a way that there is a phase shift of 90 ° between the voltages prevailing on the plate pairs. The electron beam then describes a circular movement with the circular frequency 2 21 f. Occupancy B, which consists of a plurality of individual occupancies, is also arranged in a circle. The oscillation frequency F is applied to the cylinder AZ, whereby a radial oscillation of the electron beam is achieved.
