Description

Fire retardants As fire retardants there are already various inorganic compositions known, which can not satisfy in all cases.

Während man z. Surprisingly, it has now been found that water-soluble ß-naphthol alkali salts, such as ß-naphthol sodium or ß-naphthol potassium, one with excellent success for Wood and other cellulose-containing materials, such as lightweight panels, cardboard, etc., represent suitable fire protection means. The usefulness for this purpose was not easy to foresee. It is particularly surprising that the substances proposed according to the invention, although predominantly from combustible organic enteilen (naphthol residue), the well-known in terms of fire protection inorganic fire protection chemicals that do not burn themselves from the outset, such as soda, potash, phosphates, boric acid, alum etc., even in their effect greatly outperform. While one z. B. with the help of soda, potash or soda-potash mixtures according to the well-known test method that has become an official test standard in Germany (DIN 4102) only then does a fire protection effect meet the official requirements achieved when quantities of 150 to 200 g are used per square meter of wood surface come, the same fire protection value is already achieved with the help of ß-naphthol sodium to be achieved with about half the applied amount. Another advantage is that the substances proposed in accordance with the invention as fire retardants are practically non-existent again from the materials treated with them, e.g. B. through rain can be brought out. What, of course, such fire retardants especially makes valuable.

It has also been found that in some cases one can use of soluble ß-naphthol alkali salts can be particularly advantageous if suitable wetting agents such as alkylnaphthalene sulfonates and the like are also used. The fire protection effect is particularly advantageous here. According to the increase in effectiveness; which show the products to be used according to the invention compared to inorganic salts, it has been found, for example, that if wood is treated twice the use of only 10 percent to a maximum of 2 percent solutions is sufficient, while the comparable, based on an inorganic basis, also containing wetting agents Compositions applied twice in a minimum solution of 33% content Need to become. It is a fact of experience that in general: the use is essential weaker than 33 percent salt solutions, the receptivity of cellulose-containing ones Materials, in particular woodwork, building boards, cardboard and the like are greatly increased; this also increases the effectiveness of any wetting agent added favored. It is well known that most wetting agents are less effective, the stronger the concentration of the fire protection salts in the solution must. A high network and penetration capacity is therefore usually all the more Achieve easier, the thinner the total concentration of the solution can be made can. Fire protection compositions that can be used in a thin solution are therefore mostly after two directions at an advantage over those that are applied in a stronger solution Need to become. If appropriate, one can use those proposed according to the invention - Add alkaline, dyestuffs and the like to substances.
