Wird ein Pferd mit einem Hufeisen beschlagen, welches Schraubstollen besitzt, so nutzen sich die Stollen alsbald ab, während das Hufeisen an sich noch gut ist; man ersetzt daher den stumpf gewordenen Stollen durch einen neuen. Dieses Entfernen und Wiedereinsetzen geschah meist mit Hülfe eines Schraubenschlüssels, wobei der Schmied den Huf des Pferdes festhalten mufste; da hierzu viel Kraft erförderlich war, so kam es vor, dafs das Fesselgelenk des Pferdes verdreht wurde, was ein Lahmwerden des Thieres zur Folge hatte. Durch den neuen Schlüssel soll diesem Uebelstande vorgebeugt werden. Der Schlüssel besteht in einer Zwinge a, deren Klemmschraube einen langen, bequem zu drehenden und zu haltenden Handgriff b besitzt. Diese Zwinge α wird am Hufeisen an einer passenden Stelle angeschraubt. Vermittelst der an derselben angebrachten Flügelmutter d wird der eigentliche Schlüsselhalter c, welcher mit einem Schlitz e versehen ist, an derselben befestigt. Mittelst des Schlitzes e kann der Schlüsselhalter in jeder Richtung und auf jede Entfernung festgestellt werden, so dafs der Schlüssel/ stets genau senkrecht über dem zu entfernenden bezw. einzusetzenden Stollen sich befindet. Da der Schmied den Huf des Pferdes mittelst des Handgriffes b der Zwinge vollständig ruhig zu halten vermag, so ist eine Drehung des Hufes während der Auswechselung der Stollen unmöglich, so dafs dem Thier in dieser Hinsicht keine Gefahr droht.If a horse is shod with a horseshoe that has screw studs, the studs wear out immediately, while the horseshoe itself is still good; one therefore replaces the dull tunnel with a new one.
