Description
Process for refining cellulose hydrate textiles with preservation the fiber structure by esterification It is already known that cellulose and cellulose hydrate, like rayon and rayon, while maintaining the fiber structure through treatment with a fatty acid anhydride at elevated temperature using alkali salts to largely esterify weak acids as a catalyst. Through this esterification the properties of the output fiber are greatly changed, and so for example Reservation against substantive dyes, insolubility in organic solvents, higher ironing fastness etc. achieved.
When working according to the older procedures it now occurs in many cases thereby to fiber damage that the reaction between the with the alkali salt one weak S; ittre pre-impregnated and dried goods with (learn oil, ettsättreatiliydrid very stormy and strongly exothermic. With such an esterification of Staple rayon must be treated in larger quantities, and this is where it is it is practical because of the dangerous build-up of heat in the densely packed material impossible to obtain a uniformly esterified product with any degree of certainty. Also the action of fatty acid anhydride at elevated temperature or of fatty acid anhydride vapor on the threads in Strälin form can hardly be carried out with success, as in this one too In case of local overheating, fiber damage is only too often accepted got to.
Another disadvantage of the known procedure is that that the with the catalyst solution, for. B. Potassium acetate, pre-impregnated and then dried goods are hygroscopic. However, water must in the esterification of the described Kind be carefully excluded, and so one is forced to the goods after Dry to process immediately. However, this is not always the case during operation possible with the desired speed, which is why the reaction is not uncommon lacks the intended effect.
It has now been found that these disadvantages, a technical Execution of the procedure at least extremely difficult, with the procedure for refining cellulose hydrate textiles while maintaining the fiber structure Avoid esterification by using not avivated and not yet dried Cellulose hydrate filaments or fibers, especially in the form of rayon, first Treated with a strong alkali salicylate solution and after removing the excess the treatment liquid are dried, whereupon the fatty acid anhydride at increased Temperature brought to action and then washed the material in a known manner and is dried. The fact that the alkali salts of salicylic acid as a prepreg such an effect is particularly surprising and could not be foreseen because salicylic acid is a strong acid. The beneficial effect in esterification also seems to be peculiar to it alone, as, for example, an alkali salt tartaric acid, which has almost the same dissociation constant as salicylic acid, shows practically no effect. The same applies to the corresponding salts of citric acid, which in terms of strength lies somewhere between acetic acid and salicylic acid occupies. The use of the alkali salts of salicylic acid as a pre-impregnation agent has now shown that the reaction between the prepreg cellulose and the Fatty acid anhydride runs much more smoothly and evenly than when using Alkali salts of weak acids. The process therefore does not need to be so meticulously supervised and it can be carried out at higher temperatures without risk apply for the fiber. The disadvantage of local overheating practically does not occur one, so that the important treatment especially of the rayon for the purpose of de-swelling is easier to implement.
In contrast to working with the already proposed catalysts, z. B. potassium acetate, for example, sodium salicylate has the great advantage that the goods impregnated and dried with it are not hygroscopic. Without Further processing does not need to impair the effect to be achieved to be undertaken immediately, which is particularly important in the event of an unforeseen brief Downtime can have a positive effect.
When carrying out the method according to the invention has been found to be Proven to be useful, the material to be treated with an optionally heated concentrated To pretreat a solution of an alkali salt of salicylic acid, then to dry it well and with the solution of a fatty acid anhydride in an organic solvent post-treatment at elevated temperature; but you can also after impregnation carry out the post-treatment in hot fatty acid anhydride.
The textile material treated in the manner indicated has a considerable Decrease in the swellability, which is only about 1/8 to 1/8 of the original Value is. The thread count of the goods has received a corresponding increase. The coloring properties are in terms of a strong immunization against substantive dyes and an activation compared to acetate dyes. The treated goods also have a more or less strong water repellency.
A few examples should explain the process in more detail. Example i 12 kg of never dried, unavoured, acid-free washed rayon with about 70% moisture content are immersed in about 55% sodium salicylate solution for 15 minutes at 50 ° and then spun off to a weight of 17.5 kg. The goods are dried for min. At go ° with good air circulation. It is then immediately immersed in a mixture of 120 liters of chlorobenzene and 301 acetic anhydride, heated to 100 ° C., i2o @ 4in. left. Then it is spun off, the excess acetic anhydride is removed with acetic acid, spun off again, rinsed thoroughly with finite water, spun off, dried and conditioned.
Das \\'asserriicklialtevermögen beträgt 25,2%.The product acetylated in this way has a water retention capacity of only 18.6% compared to around 72% of the original product. If you throw the goods treated in this way onto water, they float on it and do not sink under. Beispie12 20 kg of moist rayon as in Example 1 are immersed for 15 minutes at room temperature in a concentrated sodium salicylate solution with a specific gravity of 1.26 and spun off to a weight of 30 kg. It is then dried for 10 5 minutes at 95 ', after which the weight is 1 g, 2 kg. It is then immersed in 1351 acetic anhydride, which has been warmed to 100 °, and left in it for 30 minutes, the temperature temporarily rising to 100 °. It is worked up as in example i. The water reserve capacity is 25.2%.
If you use sodium citrate or potassium sodium tartrate instead of sodium salicvlate in concentrated solution, the values for the water retention capacity are 75.3% or 76.6%, i.e. H. there was practically no effect.
