Auch ist in der heutigen Zeit die Beschaffung des Celluloid außerordentlich schwierig. Man ist daher dazu übergegangen, zur Herstellung dieser Spitzen- thermoplastische, d. h. also beim Erhitzen flüssig und spritzfähig werdende und beim Erkalten sofort erhärtende Kunststoffe zu verwenden. Als solche Kunststoffe hat man bereits Acetylcellulose, die mit einem Weichmacher versetzt ist, gewählt und diesen plastischen Kunststoff auf die Enden des Schnürriemens gespritzt.
