Die Spange besteht aus einem federnden Bügel a, welcher an der Innenseite des Hutes so angenäht ist, dafs er den Kopf nicht einklemmt, sondern auf demselben aufliegt. An der Rückseite des Hutes ist der Bügel offen und sind seine Enden b nach unten abgebogen. Dieselben endigen in eine Art Kamm mit nach innen abgestumpften Zähnen c und sind nach aufsen von einer Platte d aus Schildpatt, Silber, Nickel oder dergl., welche als Schmuck dient, abgeschlossen, so dafs hier auf beiden Seiten eine Agraffe gebildet wird. Die Kammzähne können gleich lang sein oder in der Richtung nach unten sich nach innen verlängern, und äufsert sich die Wirkung der Spange in der Weise, dafs sie beim Aufsetzen aus einander gezogen wird und nach Aufhören des Zuges vermittelst ihrer Federkraft von selbst in und unter die am Hinterkopf befindliche Haarwulst greift. Die Federkraft braucht nicht auf den ganzen Bügel vertheilt zu werden, sondern kann auch an der hinteren, nach unten gerichteten Biegung ihrer Enden angeordnet werden.The clasp consists of a resilient bracket a, which is sewn to the inside of the hat in such a way that it does not pinch the head but rests on it.
