Device for pressurizing and ventilating magnetos
It is known to use magnetos for the operation of aircraft engines, which in dilute air,
i.e. at great heights, to avoid: voltage flashovers
put under increased air pressure. The compressed air can, while z. B. one in all
for high-altitude flights certain aircraft, existing compressed air system can be taken.
Since these compressed air systems are usually only put into operation at a great height,
there is a risk that the in the airtight. Detector housings included
Distribution electrodes and breaker contacts through under the action of between
The sparks passing over them decomposed air in connection with the air humidity
be gradually destroyed, if not for a constant renewal of the air in
the magneto is taken care of.

In Figs. I and -2 is an exemplary embodiment of the subject of the invention
shown. namely Fig. i shows a reversing valve from the side in section
and Fig. 2 from the front partially in section along the line 2-a in Fig. i together with
a magneto.
a ein.
in Verbindung steht.
In the figures, a is a cylinder with connecting pieces 13, c, d, e and f for the air supply and air ducts. The bore of the connecting piece d opens into the cylinder a directly next to the bore of the connecting piece e. The connecting piece f is arranged on a screw cap f ' closing off the cylinder a . A connecting line g and la of a magneto i is connected to each of the connecting pieces c and d. At that point. at which the connecting piece c opens into the cylinder a. this is provided with a recess ä. Inside the cylinder a there is a piston 1 under the action of the liner spring h, in the surface of which two circular grooves in and 3r are provided. Except for the connection piece b. c, d, c and f, there is still an attachment o on the cylinder a with a chamber p which is connected to the cylinder chamber. The chamber p has an opening q to the outside. in which a screw r 'provided with a conical shoulder r can be screwed. The screw r is secured against rotation by a spring washer s and a nut t.
i dargestellte Stellung ein.
In jedem Fall ist also
If no compressed air acts on the piston 1, it assumes the position shown in Fig. I. In this position it releases the openings in the connecting pieces b, c, d and e for the dynamic pressure ventilation of the magneto i. This ventilation is achieved in this way. that from the connection piece b from a line, not shown, to a dynamic pressure point on the engine, for example in the vicinity of the propeller. and from the connection piece e from a line, also not shown, is led to a point of lower pressure. Under the influence of a dynamic pressure difference of zoo mm water column, for example, an air flow through the connection piece b. the circular groove mi in the piston 1, the connecting piece c. the lines g and 1c and the connecting pieces d and c are sucked through the detonator i, which ensures proper ventilation of the detonator 2, even when the compressed air system of the aircraft is not in operation. If this is the case, however, the piston I takes under the action of the one connected to the connecting piece f. line (not shown) in the cylinder a flowing compressed air against the force of the spring k automatically a position in which the openings in the connecting pieces b and c are closed and in which the edge ['of the piston I releases the recess ä in the cylinder a, so that the compressed air can pass through the connection piece c and the line g in the 'magneto. From there it is returned to the cylinder a through the line h, passes through the nozzle d and the circular groove n in the piston a. into the chamber p. From here it can pass through a gap which is formed by the bore q and the 'tapered shoulder r on the screw r'. to flow out into the open. By changing the gap cross-section by turning the screw t ', it is possible to adjust the air pressure in the magneto i. The compressed air system of the aircraft is switched off. so the piston l automatically returns under the action of the spring k to the position shown in Fig. i, in which the igniter i is again ventilated by the dynamic pressure difference prevailing in the engine. In any case, sufficient ventilation of the igniter is guaranteed. It should also be mentioned. that it can be expedient. the L-m control valve on the magneto or to be installed in the magneto.
