Description
With pressed glass feet, which are penetrated by a power feed-through wire it is common to add a seal to improve the seal at the fusion point Provide a small reinforcement of the glass, a so-called sealing cone. In the preparation of this sealing sail forms very easily above the end of the actual one Cone consists of a thin glass skin that covers the wire. For example when cleaning of the wire after fusing with the aid of a sandblasting blower or at low levels Bending the wire can tear this glass skin, and the resulting cracks then propagate into the sealing cone and give rise to leaks. The invention provides a simple arrangement for overcoming this difficulty and a method of making the assembly.
When a wire is melted into the pressed glass base of an electrical Discharge tube in which the glass at the transition point into the wire surface tapering sealing cone is now according to the invention at the top of the Sealing cone seen a glass bead enclosing the wire before. This glass bead is expediently made in such a way that a short capillary tube over the wire of glass slid over to touch the sealing cone and then to one Glass bead is fused. The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the figures.
In Fig. I i is a piece of the pressed glass base and 2 is one through it Pressed glass base with wire passed through. 3 is the sealing cone. Its tip is enclosed by the glass bead 4. This glass bead has roughly the shape of a spheroid, what shape the first point of contact between glass and metal: very is well protected.
Figure 2 shows a simple process for producing this glass bead. A short piece 5 of a capillary tube is over the wire 2 up to the point of contact pushed over with the sealing cone3. This is achieved by means of a gas flame The glass ring is then heated until the bulge .f as shown in Fig. I is formed.
