Description

Emulsions for the finishing of brown coal briquettes The patent 656 634 relates to a process for the finishing of brown coal briquettes, which consists in providing their surface with rapidly breaking alkaline aqueous emulsions of bituminous substances. It has now been shown that emulsions are less suitable for the finishing of brown coal briquettes, the less easily they break when they come into contact with the surface. It has been found that it is possible to produce long-lasting emulsions, i.e. emulsions that can be stored in stock and also shipped, and which, despite their resistance to external mechanical influences, break quickly enough when applied to the surface of the briquettes The process according to patent 656634 can be carried out economically if the as yet undiluted emulsions, expediently already during the production of the emulsions, are homogenized in rapidly running agitators and similar known devices. Such emulsions are produced, for example, in such a way that an emulsion which is basically suitable for carrying out the process according to Patent 656,634 is subjected in the concentrated state to the action of a homogenizer. This concentrate is then transported, for example, to the place of use, that is to say to the briquette factory, where it is diluted with water and is now used to beautify the briquettes according to patent 656,634. The briquettes treated with such an emulsion homogenized as a concentrate have particularly favorable properties with regard to their appearance and their resistance to weathering. The emulsions, on the other hand. are with excellent stability in the concentrated state, on the other hand, after dilution, are sufficiently labile to break quickly on contact with the lignite briquette.
