Die feststehenden Oberkanten dieser Rohre werden bezüglich ihrer Höhenlage durch Nivellement festgelegt und der Wasserspiegel durch Heruntermessen von diesem bekannten Punkt ermittelt. Zu diesem Zwecke läfst man einen Faden oder ein Bandmafs mit Schwimmer herab.
