Description
Process for the preparation of aliphatic carboxylic acids It is known aliphatic acids from the corresponding liquid aldehydes by means of oxidation To produce oxygen or oxygen-containing gases in the presence of catalysts. To get the highest possible turnover, it is. necessary to keep the oxygen in finely divided states with the aldehyde until the reaction is complete to bring in touch. For this purpose z. B .. the reaction mixture vigorously stirred or passed in countercurrent through reaction towers with distribution devices are provided for the aldehyde and oxygen, etc. These measures require expensive and bulky devices. It is therefore of particular advantage with relatively simple devices an increase in performance through application of more effective catalysts. As such, in technology im general manganese compounds are used. Also the use of cerium compounds is known, but their effectiveness is completely unsatisfactory and essential lower than that of the manganese compounds.
Die Leistung einer vorhandenen Vorrichtung nimmt im gleichen Maße zu.It has been found that the conversion and yield ratios at the production of aliphatic carboxylic acids by oxidation of corresponding liquid ones Aldehydes with oxygen or molecular oxygen-containing gases in the presence are significantly improved by manganese compounds as oxidation accelerators, if you add these manganese compounds in a mixture with 5 to 50% of their weight uses per se known cerium compounds for such purposes. In general there is a noticeable increase in performance only with the addition of about 5% cerium compound in relation to the manganese compounds in appearance. Above Applying so '/ o is usually uneconomical in relation to the improvement achieved and therefore practically useless. The manganese compounds become the liquid aldehyde added in the usual amounts. The implementation is carried out in a known manner Way with the help of stirred vessels, reaction towers, etc., whereby also the application of overpressure is possible. In all cases, the use of the effects of the cerium compounds activated manganese catalyst a significant improvement in sales and a uniform oxygen uptake. It is z. B. in the case of the oxidation of liquid Acetaldehyde increases the reaction rate to over i '/ "times. The performance an existing device increases to the same extent.
The addition of the cerium compounds is also advantageous with regard to the yield, e.g. B. in the oxidation of acetaldehyde to acetic acid, the loss due to the formation of carbonic acid is reduced by about 30%. EXAMPLE i 100 g of 99% acetic acid in which 50 g of acetaldehyde are dissolved are poured into a cooled vessel provided with an effective stirrer. 1.63 g of manganese acetate with 4 H ;; O and o, o g of anhydrous cerium acetate were added. With thorough stirring and cooling, 1925 g of acetaldehyde and 50% of oxygen are allowed to flow in at a temperature of 50 to 60 °. In the course of 9 hours -252o g of acetic acid and -z5.2- g of carbonic acid were formed. Without the addition of the cerium compound, the reaction would have taken 12 hours and 32.5 g of carbonic acid would have formed. EXAMPLE 2 100 g of 99 to 100% acetic acid and, as a catalyst, 4.1 g of manganese acetate with 4 H O and 0.92 g of cerium carbonate with 5 H 2 O, suspended in 15% water, are poured into the reaction vessel described above . 1925 g of acetaldehyde and 530 l of oxygen are introduced with very good stirring and cooling, a reaction temperature of about 45 ° being maintained. The conversion of the aldehyde into acetic acid is complete after 2½ hours. If you work without the addition of cerium carbonate, 61/2 hours are required. Example 3 100 g of 99% acetic acid in which 50 g of acetaldehyde are dissolved are poured into a cooled vessel provided with an effective stirrer. At a temperature of 50 to 60 °, 775 g of acetaldehyde are gradually run in and 200 l of oxygen are passed through the reaction mixture.
The catalyst used is: a) 0.459 cerium acetate. In the hour A maximum of 1 g acetic acid is formed. There are 4.4% carbonic acid, based on the converted acetaldehyde.
Kohlensäurebildung: 1,3 °/o.b) 045 g of manganese acetate with .4 H = O. igo g of acetic acid are formed per hour.
The implementation ratios are much more favorable if Cerium and manganese compounds are present.
c) 0,45 g Manganacetat mit 4. I-I.O und 0,022 g Ceracetat. In der Stunde bildeten sich 2io g Essigsäure. Kohlensäurebildung: 1,1 o /o* d) o,45 g Manganacetat mit -1 11, O und 0,22 g Ceracetat. Es wurden stündlich 245g Essigsäure erhalten. Kohlensäurebildung: I,OR/p.c) 0.45 g of manganese acetate with 4. II.O and 0.022 g of cerium acetate. 2io g of acetic acid formed in the hour. Formation of carbon dioxide: 1.1 o / o * d) o, 45 g manganese acetate with 11 -1, O and 0.22 g of cerium acetate. 245 g of acetic acid were obtained per hour. Carbonation: I, OR / p.
