KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
In the usual way, the blades of the razor knife are in dies or dies
knocked out. The blade takes you from the back to the cutting edge first more quickly, then
gradually in a larger, but steadily continuous arc cross-section, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.
Such a raw blade is now made by eight successive grinding operations
gradually brought into the form shown by Fig. 3 (the figure is somewhat abnormal for better understanding
drawn), finally by sanding the corner that was still there before
to obtain the finished cross-sectional shape (Fig. 4), in which the blade of the
First cut out a little wedge-shaped or knife-shaped thickened around the back
then to narrow again in a gentle curve and now from there in a rapidly increasing curve
Arch to form the strong back. To get to this final result, click on
before the polishing is done, grinding is required ten times.
In order to reduce this grinding work to a minimum as possible, when the blades are struck they are given a shape which deviates from the previous shape, as shown in FIGS. 5 and 6. Here the countersink is formed from the back in such a way that there is a certain parapet or a recessed edge on the cutting side and that the boundary line of the blade surface is a line with an alternating direction of curvature, running undulating, from the back only, as in the old method, in to significantly lower curvature in a gentle arc passing over, but then, measured approximately in the center to 3/5 of the width from the back, again gently rising and after the cutting edge again, almost imperceptible wedge-shaped running. This blade is already similar in cross-section to the cross-section of the finished knife in the rough (the contour lines of the proposed knife form the equidistants of the finished blade). A blade prepared in this way can be hardened very well, does not get any cracks or bends and can be completely ground in four operations. Already with the third sanding you get the cross-sectional shape, which with the old shape can only be reached with the ninth sanding, and now you just have to thin the bulge from the cavity to the cutting edge.
