Flat stockings (or socks) are made according to known manufacturing methods three parts: lengths, heel, and foot compound, which parts are often found on different ones Knitting machines work in such a way that one part acts on the other, after the finished part has been hung on the row of needles of another chair (aufgestbfsen) has. Sometimes a chair works all parts one after the other, that is, the Heel to the outside of the length and later the foot to the middle part of the length; In doing so, as is well known, the work must be interrupted as often as the pieces change, a part must be reopened or a piece of the row of needles must be struck or you have to make multiple seams afterwards, in short, it is created multiple times Interruption and loss of time, and the heel does not have the required spherical shape, but becomes angular and wrinkled.
By the new process, however, a stocking is flat from ascenders α b, Fig j, from up to Fufsspitze \ \ continued working in gleichmäfsig and uninterrupted successive rows around the Waarenbreite and receives it the correct shape of its parts in the following manner. The Drawings represent a sock, which is also a stocking, only with short lengths. Even in the new process, the length work remains the same as it has been done up to the end of the lowest part. For socks e.g. For example, the ascenders have an elastic border abcd, j on which the descenders cdfe are worked, and for long stockings the length is usually started with the double border, reduced in the calf and worked in the known manner until ef.
Näht man dann das flache Waarenstück (Fig. 1) in den Aufsenkanten zusammen, so erhält man den fertigen Strumpf (Fig. 2) mit richtiger Form aller seinerTo make the heel, the goods are now worked over the entire row width ef , but in the side pieces eg and hf to il and mk, which are to form the heel, a reinforcing thread is added to the usual working thread and furthermore is formed in these row pieces eg to i I and hf to mk longer meshes than in the middle section gh to Im. As a result, the edge parts eg Ii and hf km of the fabric get long and wide meshes, they thus become longer than the middle part ghm I. At the same time the fabric is opened both sides in the stretches e to 0 and / to r are widened by covering or hitting them, so that their width is thereby also increased, and finally it is narrowed again in the stretches s to i and ν to Ic by reducing it. Each row of stitches in this middle piece of goods efki hangs horizontally on the row of chair needles, but the rows are later distorted in the goods because of the longer outer pieces of the latter. The foot η is now worked on the last row ι / mk in the usual way and with the usual working thread. If you then sew the flat piece of goods (Fig. 1) together in the outer edges, you get the finished stocking (Fig. 2) with the correct shape of all of its
