Electric discharge lamp or fluorescent tube with one made of cadmium tungstate
existing phosphor layer It is known to be on the inner or outer vessel wall
electric discharge lamps or fluorescent tubes or on one inside the
Discharge vessel housed or on a screen placed in front of the tube
To attach luminescent materials by the radiation generated during the discharge
be stimulated to emit visible light. You have phosphors for these
already proposed cadmium tungstate, which by short-wave ultraviolet
Rays, especially the line: 537 Å of the low-pressure mercury discharge, but
z. B. is also excited by cathode rays to glow. The color of the C admiumwalframats
is a pale blue. This color could previously be achieved by adding other substances to the cadmiumw
olframate can not be significantly changed.
c;
Man
Ultraviolett nicht durchlässigem Glas besteht.It has now been found that a substantial change in the color of the cadmium tungstate with a simultaneous change in the excitation bands is possible by adding certain metals which act as activators. In the electric discharge lamp or fluorescent tube according to the invention, the cadmium tungstate phosphor attached in the interior of the vessel, on the outer wall of the vessel or on a screen or envelope vessel assigned to the lamp contains gold or uranium as an activator, and specifically in an amount of from 0.1 to 0.50. As has been found, these small additions of metal cause a complete change in the cadmium tungstate. While the tungstates were previously regarded as pure phosphors, <<c;
With regard to light output, resistance and afterglow duration could be changed, a cadmium tungstate is changed in the emitted light color and also in the excitation band by the specified additions of gold or uranium, similar to the sulfides known as foreign substance phosphors. A cadmium tungstate activated with uranium shines in red and a cadmium tungstate activated with gold in yellow. Furthermore, such a phosphor can mainly be excited by long-wave ultraviolet, in particular the line 365o A of the mercury discharge, but also by short-wave ultraviolet and cathode rays. The high sensitivity of this luminescent material to the wavelength 365o, Ä extends the field of application of the cadinium tungstate quite considerably, since ordinary glass is permeable to this wavelength. Instead of the inside of the discharge vessel, this luminescent material can therefore also be applied successfully to the outer wall or to an associated envelope vessel or a preceding screen, even if the discharge vessel is made of ordinary glass that is impermeable to short-wave ultraviolet.
The following is an example of the manufacture of the novel
Luminous substance described: 198 g of sodium tungstate and 154 g of cadmium sulfide are used
separately dissolved in one liter of distilled water each. Then both solutions
poured together, filtered and the precipitate 6 times with hot distilled water
washed and dried at 180 ° C. Now 0.1 percent by weight of uranium is added,
in the form of uranyl nitrate. The mixture is then dried at 180 ° C
ground and calcined at 100 ° C in air for one hour, expedient
in a quartz boat. This is followed by another wash and
Sieving the powder.
To activate the cadmium tungstate with gold, the procedure
carried out accordingly; only the addition of gold is expediently about o, oi
Weight percent and takes place z. B. in the form of gold chloride.
