Description

Verfähren zur Herstellung von hochfeuerfesten Erzeugnissen, - z. B. von Steinen, Kitten usw. Hochfeuerfeste Erzeugnisse unter Verwen- dung von Siliciumcarbid werden im aUg-c- meinen in der Weise hergestellt, daß man Siliciumcarbid verschiedener Körnungen mit 3 oder mehr Prozent Bindeton mischt und dann brennt. An derartige Erzeugnisse, z. B. Steine, Kitte u. dgl., werden. bei- ihrer Ver- wendung z. B. als feuerfester Stoff sehr hohe Anforderungen bezüglich Lebensdauer, Hkze- b,estäii#dibkeit usw. gestellt. Die Erzeugnisse -sollen vor allem -sehr dicht sein und rüg; lichst wenig Lufträume einschließen, so daß gie Gasen und Dämpfen, die das Silsciu:m- carbid ;angreifen könnten, weitgehend Wider- stand leisten. Es wurde ein Verfahren gefunden, durch weIches der Gebrauchswert derartiger Massen erheblich gesteigert wird. Das Verfahren be- ruht auf der Bildung glasartiger Schmelzen innerhalb der Erzeugnisse und auf ihrer Oberfläche, 'durch welche vor allem -die lscheänbare Porasität herabgesetzt und auch die Dichte erhöht wird. Gemäß der Erfindung wind so vorgegangen, daß man einer an sich bekannten Mischung von z. B. körnigem Sili= ciunicarbid und 3 oder mehr Prozent Bindeton geringe Mengen Titanoxyd zusetzt, worauf *die Masse, wie üblich, gegebenenfalls geformt und gebramlt wird. Wie gefunden wurde, 'hat sich ein Gehalt der Masse von etwa 10/6 Titanoxyd als besonders vorteilhaft erwiesen. Darüber und darunter werden im allgemeinen keine günstigeren Ergebnisse er, zielt. Sollte die Masse nicht schon an sich, z. B. aus Ver unrellrigungen des Silicium@caxbids, Eisenoxyd enthalten, so ist es vorteilhaft, solches ebenfalls in, Mengen von etwa i % der Masse zuzusetzen. Es hat sich gezeigt, daß Erzeugnisase aus derartigen. aus Bindeton und einer überwiegenden Menge von Sihdumcarbid, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Mischung geringe Mengen Titanoxyd, vornehmlich etwa i %, zugesetzt Werden.
