Abstract
The upper level or meniscus (8) of the molten metal is established in a region located upstream of the point where solidification of the metal in the ingot mould (5) commences, so as to avoid variations in level of the metal in this ingot mould (5). The device comprises a casting container (1) provided with a teeming nozzle (taphole) (2), and a bottomless ingot mould (5) placed under the teeming nozzle (taphole) (2). It also comprises a tubular element (4) of refractory material arranged between the casting container (1) and the ingot mould (5), aligned with the latter; this tubular element (4) of refractory material is fastened rigidly, via its lower end, to the upper part of the ingot mould (5), and it is connected, via its upper end, to the casting container (1). An elastic seal (21) is interposed between the casting container (1) and the tubular element (4), whilst a seal of refractory material (6) is interposed between the tubular element (4) and the ingot mould (5). <IMAGE>
