Malgeräte werden ähnlich wie Schreibgeräte bisher durchweg in Stiftform ausgebildet und müssen demgemäß bekanntlich mit einem besonderen Griff angefaßt werden, um sie richtig führen zu können. Zu diesem Zweck liegt der Zeigefinger oberhalb des Stiftes, während der Stift selbst auf der linken Kante des Mittelfingers liegt und vom Daumen gegengehalten wird. Diese Schreib- und Malhaltung, für einen Erwachsenen eine Selbstverständlichkeit, führt bei Kleinkindern und Lernanfängern leicht zu Verkrampfungen und damit zu schlechter Führung des Schreib- und Malgerätes und damit weiterhin ¹^u schlechter Schrift. Man ist deshalb seit geraumer zeit bemüht, zur Lockerung der Schreibhand zunächst mit dem sogenannten "Pfötchengriff" zu arbeiten, d.h. einen Malstift oder kurzen Schreibstift pfötchenartig in die hohle Hand zu nehmen. Das is¹ für eine ausgewachsene Hand oder für eine größere Kinderhand keine Schwierigkeit.
