Die Erfindung besteht in der Verwendung von Metallelektroden mit einer Umhüllung, die außen wasserbeständig ist und in der Weise abbrennt oder -bricht, daß sie auf dem Werkstück aufgesetzt bleiben kann, für die elektrische Lichtbogenschweißung unter Wasser. Zweckmäßig besteht die Umhüllung aus einem Gemisch von Wasserglas und Kreide. Bekanntlich bot das Schweißen unter Wasser mit dem elektrischen Lichtbogen bisher fast unüberbrückbare Hindernisse, weil es dem Taucher infolge der Eigenart der Taucharbeit nicht möglich war, den Lichtbogen immer in der für das Schweißen nötigen Entfernung vom Werkstück zu halten.The invention consists in the use of metal electrodes with a sheath, which is water-resistant on the outside and burns or breaks in such a way that it is on the Workpiece can remain in place for electric arc welding under water.
