Description
Process for the production of photographic dye images in layers containing photographic silver images which are dyed throughout It is known to be possible to destroy the dye at the locations of the image silver by treating a layer containing a photographic silver image in a continuously dyed layer. A number of different procedures have been described for this purpose, and there are a number of treatment baths which produce the described effect. Some of these baths contain strong reducing agents which destroy the dye even in the absence of silver. They have the disadvantage that, in addition to the image-wise destruction of the dye, there is a general weakening of the color over the entire image area. The silver is not attacked in these baths and is therefore removed afterwards. Other baths are known which, on their own, do not attack the dye and only acquire the ability to destroy the dye in conjunction with the metallic image silver. Such baths are to be referred to as indiftel-duck solutions which have a dye-destroying effect in the presence of the silver precipitate. In contrast to the reducing treatment baths, in which the reducing agent present in the bath counteracts the dissolution of the silver, the indifferent baths have the property of attacking the silver. For example, when treating a colored silver image with a solution of 5 g thiocarbamide, 2l / 2 g citric acid and zoo g water, the dye can be destroyed in proportion to the amount of silver and at the same time the silver is dissolved, so that in a single Bath a silver-free dye image is created. It has now been found that this simplest mode of operation is by no means the most economically advantageous when applied to multi-coated films, especially in the case of machine processing. Does the multi-coated film contain e.g. If, for example, there is a layer on each side of the support, the duration of the treatment must depend on the end of the bleaching process in that layer in which the dye fades the slowest.
The present invention is made to remedy this deficiency and leads not only to a shortening of the treatment time, but also to an improvement the dye images themselves.. The invention is that in several - on one layers arranged on a common carrier prevent the destruction of the dyes by treatment baths takes place, the effect of which is associated with a conversion of the silver into silver salt in the presence of an amount of silver which is greater than that for dye destruction necessary amount of silver and that the excess amount of silver after dye destruction is removed by any attenuator.
The starting point of this invention was the surprising finding that in terms of brilliance and gradation of the dye images one can achieve significantly better ones Results come when you come from a much stronger one Silver picture goes out; if, therefore, there is a large supply of silver in the photographic layer from the start is present than would be necessary to produce the dye image. The main advantage and the success of this method of operation, which is essential for the invention, lies in that one arrives at clearly defined images in a significantly shorter time than if one were to start from a silver image, one would destroy the dye contains just the necessary amount of silver or only a small excess of it. If you work with excess silver, it will be in almost all parts of the picture only a small proportion of the available silver is consumed to destroy the to convey simultaneously present dye in the layer. The exposure time the baths can be kept constant to a very high degree, and those to achieve The necessary exposure time of the dye image can be achieved by a one-off Preliminary test very easily determine if the staining of the layers like this particularly this is always the case with the photosensitive materials dyed in the emulsion is approximately the same. For multi-layer materials, the use is a larger amount of silver also suitable to compensate for the differences that arise, if the effectiveness of the baths decreases with increasing layer depth. The exposure time the dye-destroying agent in the case of several halosilver layer parts cast on top of one another would be proportionately lengthened in the case of using a normal amount of silver must be and can be regulated according to the invention by increased silver content. The increased amount of silver is achieved by maintaining exposure and development accordingly achieved in a known manner.
The constant and short exposure time of the dye-destroying Baths is particularly important when it comes to the machine treatment of cinema films you always want to get the same results. With double-sided coated Filming, the use of an excess of silver has the effect that the exposure time of the bath can be shortened and at the same time on both sides: same Quantities of dye are destroyed. One is therefore not tied to the exposure time to expand the dye-destroying and silver-dissolving agents as long as: until the silver is dissolved out too. Rather, one can with a constant exposure time of the dye-destroying agent, which can be determined very easily by preliminary tests is. The duration of the treatment is determined by the accelerating effect of the excess silver abbreviated and dimensioned so that all layers in dye images at the same time being transformed. The treatment baths used for this purpose can, for. B. exist in the thiocarbamide solution described above, or it can be a 5 ° / öige Sodium sulfide solution, a 21 /,% thiodiglycolic acid solution with a content of 21/2% glucose, a 1/2% semicarbazide or thiosemicarbazide solution with a content of 1 /, 0 /, sulfuric acid or other baths can be used with react immediately to the image silver or simultaneously through Komple_Kbildung dissolve.
About the dyes that are locally destroyed with these baths can include in particular azo dyes, such as Diaminreinblau FF (Schultz dye tables, Leipzig 193 r, I.Bd., 7th edition, 1 \ T r. 5 xo), stain yellow GG, diamine real pinkBBF (Schultz dye tables, Leipzig 1932, 2: vol., 7th edition, p. 69). The procedure but can also be used if the light-sensitive layers do not contain any dyes, but contain dye-forming substances.
After the completion of the reaction, the silver will be in any Weakening bath dissolved away. For example, you can take the pictures after washing them well treat with your farmer's attenuator. But you should only be neutral or use attenuators that do not act too vigorously to keep the dye image itself is not changed:
