Description
Process for the preparation of 1-amino-7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid and their N-derivatives. It has been found that one hitherto unknown i-Amino-7-oxynaphthalene-4.-sulfonic acid and its N-aryl-, -alkyl-, -aralkyl- and -Cycloalkyl derivatives are obtained if 1-aminonaphthalene-4, 7-disulfonic acid is used with caustic alkalis heated and the 1, 7-dioxynaphthalene-q.-sulfonic acid obtained with ammonia or Amino compounds, expediently in the presence of salts of sulfurous acid, at implements higher temperatures.
In the first stage of the present reaction sequence are in a Operation of the ß-sulfonic acid group and the amino group by hydroxyl groups replaced, and one obtains in almost theoretical yield the very easily soluble 1, 7-dioxynaphthalene-q-sulfonic acid. This implementation can surprisingly perform at temperatures only slightly above 2oo °. For the Reaction with ammonia or amino compounds can be the z. B. with the necessary Use immediately the amount of sulfuric acid neutralized alkali melt.
This second stage is expediently under pressure at temperatures around 13o ° carried out. If you use amines with a higher boiling point, you can Heat the reaction mixture to the boil in an open vessel under reflux cooling.
In the patent 75 066 is a sulfonation of 1-amino-7-oxynaphthalene Described monosulfonic acid obtained according to the information in that patent the constitution of an r-amino-7-oxynaphthaleneq.-sulfonic acid is said to belong to it. at However, closer examination has shown that not the: in the patent specification 75 o66 described acid, but the acid different from it, after New sulfonic acid obtainable by the process of the present invention has the constitution which has i-amino-7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid.
The two compounds initially differ in their crystal form; The ditr acid of the patent specification 75,066 crystallizes in prisms, the new compound on the other hand in needles. The salts of the acid of the present invention show in aqueous Solution a much stronger fluorescence than the salts of the known acid, and also consists in the solubility of the N-acetyl compounds of the two acids in water a significant difference. If you know the amino group of the new acid in Way replaced by hydrogen by diazotization and boiling with alcohol, so 2-oxynaphthalene-5-sulfonic acid is obtained; thus the constitution of this aminonaphtholsulfonic acid largely proven as i-amino-7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid. The one in the patent specification On the other hand, the acid described 5 o66 gives z-oxynaphthalene-6-sulfonic acid with the same treatment, from which it can be seen that they have the constitution of i-Am @ ino-7-oxynaphthalene-3-sulfonic acid owns. It could also be further demonstrated that contrary to the information provided by Patent specification 75 066 the acid described there with the according to the specifications of the patent 58 352 obtainable by alkali pressure melting from i-aminonaphthalene-3, 7-disulfonic acid i-Amino-7-oxynaphthalene, in-3-sulfonic acid is identical.
It follows that the i-amino-7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid was not previously described and that it was made according to the method of the present invention became accessible for the first time. The new acid and its N-alkyl-, -aryl-, -aralkyl- and cycloalkyl derivatives are valuable new intermediates for manufacture of azo dye. Acylation on nitrogen can make the acid and its named Derivatives in a manner known per se into other technically valuable intermediates be transferred.
Examples i. 30.3; kg of i-aminonaphthalene, n-4, 7-disulfonic acid are heated to 230 to 25o ° with about 15o kg of sodium hydroxide or the corresponding amount of potassium hydroxide and enough water to produce a uniform melt. When the evolution of ammonia has ceased, the melt is diluted with water, acidified with sulfuric acid and, if necessary, filtered. The solution contains i, 7-dioxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid, which, like its salts, is extremely easily soluble in water.
In the solution, if necessary, evaporate to about Zoo 1 and to free it from excreted sodium sulphate, about 50 kg of ammonia gas are passed through , add 1 kg sodium bisulfite and heat for about 5 hours in a pressure vessel on i3o to 14o °. After removing the ammonia, which is used for a new approach can be, and 'acidification with hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid separates the i-amino-7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid in very good yield.
After filtering and drying it forms very heavily in water soluble light gray powder that dissolves easily in sodium acetate and sodium carbonate solution solves. The alkaline solutions show violet fluorescence. The i-amino-7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid supplies two series of azo dyes, depending on whether you have them in acidic or alkaline Medium combined with D.iazo compounds.
If methylamine is used instead of ammonia for the reaction, then so i-methylamino-7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid is obtained, which is extremely in water is easily soluble.
The reaction with other aliphatic can be carried out in an analogous manner or cycloaliphatic amines, e.g. B. cyclohexylamine, benzylamine, n-propylamine, Isopropylamine, n-butylamine, sec-butylamine, isohexylamine, etc., perform where the corresponding N-derivatives are obtained.
One according to example i. of 30.3, 7-disulfonic acid solution prepared kg i-aminonaphthalene-4 of i, 7-dioxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid is heated with the addition of 4o kg sodium bisulfite, 4o kg of aniline and 1 5 kg of sodium carbonate so long under reflux to boiling, until dioxynaphthalenesulfonic acid is no longer detectable, which is the case after about 24_ hours.
The reaction mixture is made alkaline with sodium carbonate, removed the excess aniline by steam distillation and separates, if necessary afterwards filtering the solution, acidifying the resulting i-phenylamino-7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid away. After drying it forms a heavy in water, in sodium carbonate solution easily soluble green-gray powder.
Other aryl derivatives of i-Ain.ino-7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid can also be prepared in an analogous manner represent, so z. B. i - (4 '= methoxyphenylamino) - 7 - oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid, a green-gray powder that is also very difficult to dissolve in water and easily soluble in soda solution, also the i- (3'-carboxyphenylamino) -7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid 'and the i.- (4'-sulfophenylamino) - 7-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid, which is more readily soluble in water are gray powders.
