The invention relates to a method for connecting two metal sheets. Around in the manufacture of laminated iron bodies, which in electrical apparatus a Part or all of the magnetic flux will lead to decrease the amount of waste it has proved to be advantageous to continuously connect a number of sheets to one another and so make a ribbon of any length. which the sheet metal cuts for such iron bodies are now punched. When using this procedure the sheets are used particularly well. It is already known to have two sheets in the To connect the butt joint by means of a roller seam welding process. In the known method the edges of the sheets are provided with interlocking teeth. A roller that screams is used as the electrode is that it covers the teeth of both sheets.
Außerdem werden durch das Pulver alle noch vorhandenen Lücken zwischen den beiden zu verbindendenThe invention now relates to a method for connecting two sheets in the Butt joint by means of electrical resistance welding and consists in that the joint of the two sheets placed on a fixed electrode, with iron powder, preferably Magnetic powder, and a second electrode over the joint under pressure simultaneous passage of current through powder and sheet metal is moved. That with the invention The iron powder or magnetic powder used is the same as any Unevenness and unequal thicknesses of the two sheets and improves the power conduction through the sheets. In addition, the powder removes any remaining gaps between the two to be connected

Filled sheets. This is particularly effective under the influence of the magnetic flux, generated by the welding current flowing through the joint. The presence of the powder prevents it also the sticking of the sheets to the electrodes during the welding process. As a result, it is possible to use the electrodes significantly longer without using them ίο 'renew or overhaul. The welding process is also improved by the fact that the welding current density when using powder is uniform everywhere, which avoids burned or unwelded areas will.
The welding method according to the invention is particularly suitable for weak, rolled magnetic steel Sheets for electrotechnical purposes are safe thanks to electrical resistance welding to connect with each other without reinforcing the sheets at the weld arises. If sheets of magnetic material are welded together should, it is expedient to use pure iron powder in the process according to the invention used to a very high degree of fineness. The best results are achieved with carbonyl iron powder or iron powder reduced by hydrogen is used. Ordinary iron powder with a low carbon content and high purity, however, is cheaper than the carbonyl or hydrogen iron and can be used with equal success. It has also been found that powder with a high electrical resistance produce worse results than those with a low one Resistance.
■The method according to the invention also enables the secure connection of two Allows metal sheets of different thicknesses. A connection between two sheets of different thickness takes place in the way, that the inequality of the sheet thickness at the joint is compensated by an iron powder layer will. ■
In a further embodiment of the invention, the powder is applied to the junction of the two sheets expediently applied in such a way that the edges of the sheets on the Junction with a mixture of iron powder and a liquid in which the Iron powder is finely divided. Heavy ones are particularly suitable for this Machine oils, however, can also be rosin oil made with pine oil or with volatile mineral oils diluted with a high flash point. Such oils are z. Belly used in the isolation of transformers. Since these liquids contain the Powder does not set so quickly, these liquids are particularly suitable for the invention Procedure. Moreover, the rosin oil produced with pine oil or volatile Mineral oils is not so unpleasant Smoke and odor during the welding process such as glycerine or the heavy oils. A little smoke however also occurs when using dilute rosin oils, but this can Smoke can easily be removed by suction or blowing away, so that it is in none Way bothers the welder.
In der Zeichnung ist der Gegenstand der Erfindung in zwei Ausführungsbcispiclen ycranschaulicht, und zwar stelltIn the drawing, the subject is the Invention in two embodiments ycranschaulicht, namely represents
Abb. Ι the connection of two equally thick metal sheets and
·Fig. 2 the connection of two sheets of different strengths.
The two to be welded together Plates 10 and 11, which at their abutting Ends with teeth are given away, lie with the points to be welded a fixed electrode 12. The two sheets 10 and 11 are assembled in such a way that that the teeth are in engagement with one another. The connection established in this way a thin layer of iron powder 13 is applied and then the weld with it Using a roller electrode 14, which over the Connection point is moved, made. The roller electrode 14 has a known Way such an axial length that it covers the teeth of both sheets will be. By moving the roller electrode 14, the edges of the teeth of the one. Sheet connected to the edges of the other sheet.
Dies würde zur Folge haben,During the welding process, as shown at 15, that lying in front of the electrode 14 Powder is immediately drawn between the sheets, with the help of the magnetic Flux generated by the welding current flowing through the sheets. This magnetic flux causes the powder as indicated in the figure, distributed along the joining seam of the two sheets and thereby a good line for the welding current is established. The powder melts 110. and fills the gaps that still exist at the junction of the two sheets. As Fig. 2 also shows, the powder also resembles the inequality of the sheet thickness at the junction. Rolled sheets have small deviations in thickness, and without using the powder coating, the electrode would only be on the stronger one of the two sheets to be connected come to rest and thus in a proportionate way small contact surface generate a very high current. This would have the consequence
Überholung der Elektrode, erforderlich.• 'that the metal burns at the joint and thus, a bad weld results. Burning the metal also damages the contact surface the electrode and makes a more frequent renewal or overhaul of the electrode, necessary.
■ίο with a silicon content of 5 to 70/0. at Sheet metal. With high silicon content, punching the sheets creates at the joint jagged edges. Moreover, the flow of metal in such a hard and brittle material is due to the weakness of the Limited sheets. The iron powder that is present fills in any gaps and delivers additional material during welding. The composition of the used Powder largely depends on the composition of the sheets to be welded - very often it results in a powder the same composition as the material to be welded gives the best results. For example, it has been shown that when welding sheets made of stainless steel, the 180/0 chrome and Containing nickel, a powder of the same composition will give the best results Has. ■
