Description
Surge short-circuiters, in particular current bridges for electrical ones Series incandescent lamps The invention relates to overvoltage short-circuiters that close a circuit automatically as soon as the voltage on the short-circuiter has a exceeds a certain value. The well-known short-circuiters of this type, which are primarily to bypass burned-out series incandescent lamps or to replace a burned-out one Incandescent lamp used by a second are mostly based on either effect of cumbersome electro-magnetic relays or, on which only in the case of high overvoltages Safe breakdown of poorly conductive materials when cold.
The present invention now uses what is known per se The fact that the ignition voltage is provided with two metal electrodes and with Discharge tube filled with dilute gases a few millimeters of pressure hurried has a precisely defined and precisely repeatable value, depending on the type of gas filling and depends on the electrade metal. The ignition voltage is one with neon and Helium-filled discharge tube, e.g. B. a so-called glow lamp, about 160 volts, a value that comes with the her-. position can be maintained within a few volts can. By suitable choice of the electrode building material or the gas filling, change this value within certain limits. The invention now uses the at Onset of a discharge in a discharge tube that was previously completely current-blown Heat to trigger a switching process that short-circuits the gas discharge path: The overvoltage short-circuiter according to the invention is accordingly characterized by a gas discharge tube provided with metallic electrodes and one for short-circuiting the tube electrodes serving switching means, the z. B. from an easily meltable or slightly atomized metal or from a metal that separates when heated Fabric or can consist of a bimetal body. The switching means is here only when the tube limit blocking voltage is exceeded and then by the occurring Discharge generated heat is actuated in the discharge circuit.
In the drawing are four as an exemplary embodiment according to the invention trained overvoltage short-circuiter, in each case in the open and closed position, shown schematically.
In the short circuiter shown in Fig. I a and i b, the Discharge tube i a cup-shaped electrode 2, which with a slightly liquid Metal alloy 3 is filled. Ari this electrode 2 is the extension wire q. connected, which is led to the vicinity of the counter electrode 5. When inserting the discharge between the electrode 5 and the electrode 2 or its extension wire The electrode 2 attached with the opening facing downwards heats up, whereby the Metal 3 flows out and, as shown in Fig. I b, between the extension q. and thus a metallic one between the electrode 2 and the counter electrode 5 Causes short-circuit connection.
During the short circuiter shown in Fig. I during manufacture and during operation must not be exposed to higher temperatures, as the melting point of the metal 3 in consideration of the not very considerable heat development the electrodes and rapid switch-on must be kept low the short-circuiter illustrated in Fig. 2 is readily used during manufacture Temperatures from incandescent lamps and discharge tubes of around ¢ oo to 5oo ° C. In this embodiment, one electrode of the approximately with a mixture discharge vessels filled with neon and helium, for example, from 2omm pressure a stiff wire 6 is formed, which carries a fork 7 at its end. At that too Counter-electrode 8 consisting of a stiff wire is a hairpin-shaped spring g fastened and tensioned so that when they are released, as Fig. 2b shows, in the Fork 7 of wire 6 strikes and thereby short-circuits the electrodes 6 and 8. In the starting position, however, it is attached to it by a thin clip made of magnesium tape prevented, which comprises the movable part of the spring 9 and the wire 8. As soon as the If the voltage between the electrodes 6, 8 reaches the ignition value, a glow discharge sets in one, which jumps to the magnesium ribbon io with arcing. Atomized in the process the magnesium ribbon io in a few seconds, and the spring 9 provides the desired Short circuit between 6 and 8. Since such a Kurzschlussvörii, caution against external temperature changes is insensitive as long as the calibration temperature of the glass bulb is not reached, it can therefore be reduced to a compact design melt easily in discharge tubes and incandescent lamp bulbs or in theirs Place the base. The short circuiter shown in Fig between the electrodes i i and 12 a thin disc 13 made of a material, for. B. Lead chloride, which conducts electricity only to a very small extent at room temperature and is electrolytically decomposed when heated with metal deposition. Set the Gas discharge between the electrodes i i and 12 a, so, is simultaneous with the electrodes this disc 13 is heated and, as shown in Fig.3b, by electrolysis a conductive, metallic connection 14 between the electrodes i 1, 12 established.
The embodiments indicated so far establish permanent contact after the onset of the discharge. According to a further feature of the invention, however, the new short-circuiter can also be used to periodically open and close a circuit to which a certain minimum voltage is applied. To this. Purpose will be, as in Fig.q. gczcigt, i 5 and 1 6 are formed, the two electrodes as Bimctallstreifen which curve after the occurrence of the discharge and the heating occurring while being short-circuited by the contact pieces attached to them 1 7 and 18th After the discharge has ceased, the electrodes cool down again, and the game of alternating closing and opening of the circuit begins anew. Such a device in conjunction with an incandescent lamp results, for. B. an automatic flasher.
The short-circuiters described can be so without difficulty train that they can be used for both direct current and alternating current. For this purpose, for example with the short circuiter according to Fig. I, it is only necessary fill both electrodes with a slightly liquid alloy.
While with the known flashing light devices with bimetallic switch a heating current already flows in the initial position of the switch and accordingly the switching time depends largely on the indeterminate heat conditions of the bimetal switch depends, the initially completely currentless overvoltage short-circuiter according to the invention only at a very specific, precisely adjustable voltage value, namely the ignition voltage the discharge tube, suddenly energized and made to respond.
