Description
Process for making waxy products It is known that one from such oils or fats, which are technically significant amount of liquid or solid high molecular weight, monohydric aliphatic alcohols, such as. B. myricyl alcohol, Cetyl alcohol, stearic alcohol, oleic alcohol, etc., contain these alcohols on various levels Because -with or without the aid of solvents or distillation in technical pure form. The resulting tranquil and bad smelling Fatty acids differ from the widely used fatty acid mixtures from oleic acid, Vegetable and animal stearic acid and palmitic acid. Fatty acid mixtures, the z. B. are obtained from spermaceti oil, are known to contain significant amounts of fatty acids with a higher molecular weight than stearic acid.
Products obtained by hydrogenating the fatty acids in spermaced oil have already been put on the market.
It has now been found that those of cetyl alcohol, oleic alcohol and the like. freed hydrogenated fatty acids from sperm aceti oil by esterification with glycerine or glycol solid waxy esters.
These esters are largely similar to Japan wax, they can be like this for the manufacture of cosmetic preparations and for other wax-processing purposes Industries, for example for floor polishes, polishing agents, textile products, machine greases etc., can be used. The unfavorable ones adhering to the original fatty acids They no longer show properties in terms of smell and color.
One proceeds here in such a way that one of the known ones from spermaceti oil Way after separation of the alcohols obtained fatty acids with about 1/2 times stoichiometric, d. H. for the formation of triglycerides or glycol diesters theoretically required amount of 9s / 99 ° oily glycerin or glycol in for normal fatty acid Esterified in a manner known per se and then likewise known per se Way of catalytic hydrogenation. But you can also proceed in this way that one .spalten the spermacetiöl after conventional hydrogenation, separating the alcohols and the fatty acids are esterified with glycerine or glycol. Particularly light-colored products is achieved when the fatty acids are distilled in a high vacuum before esterification and if the esters are finally treated with one of the usual bleaching agents.
Example 100 parts by weight of fatty acids freed from higher alcohols from hardened spermaceti oil are calculated at about 150 ° with i1 / 2 times the Amount of dynamite glycerine heated until the acid number has dropped to 5 to 2o is. The product obtained in this way is boiled with water and added with 2 to 5 parts by weight Bleached full earth at 90 ° with stirring and filtered hot. It will be io3 parts by weight a solid, waxy, light yellow, approximately or completely neutral body of the Melting point 52 ° obtained. You can also use glycerine instead Use glycol or a glycol that is substituted, but not in the OH groups.
The rü. Obtained with the help of glycerine. free fatty acids whole or Almost free P: as glyceride, the product is chemically similar, but also particularly physically the Japan wax; It can be used in place of beeswax or even in the place of beeswax like this Take the place of other waxes or wax-like substances. This product further differs by this chemical and physical similarity with Japan wax from free solid, saturated fatty acids; towards these is special to refer to the higher speed.
